The 10th Region does not have an "All-Tournament" team.

 

The 10th Region gives about 30 10th Region Championship plaques to the winners and about the same number of Runners-up plaques to the runners-up.

 

The All-Region team is certainly different from the All-Tournament team (or lack thereof) and is comprised of all of the players/teams in the region, not only the 10th Region Tournament participants.

 

Most regional tournaments do have all-tournament teams. I'm sure that it could be voted in at the pre-tournament meeting on Saturday morning, but then the winner/runner-up plaques would be eliminated.

 

If the girls do indeed have an all-tournament team, which I suspect that they do, that would be the result of being voted in by the participating coaches.

Can you blame those ppl? And it somewhat surprises me that CLo got to come to this one... He and the Vols seem to have some issues to solve lately going into a pretty big stretch of games...

I bet Lofton is back at UT tommorrow when it comes time for the players to do their job. Lofton took full advantage of his day off and helped some kids he's known for a long time. He'll be ready.

From a former 10th region member: Mason County is a great team and has a great program that we pull for when they play any team but our own. Their facility is fantastic and they do a good job of hosting the tournament. BUT ,there is no way anyone can possibly deny the reality that this is a tremendous advantage and I feel like last night was a perfect example. PLAYING AT HOME GIVES YOU AN EDGE! Does no one think that playing at home is worth 3 points? Is this fair to GRC. They may never get another oppurtunity to get this far for years even though they have their best 2 player back.

This gym has hosted some of the best regional tournaments in history and has a certain "mystique" that somehow goes with it, but it is really just not fair to the other teams in the region. Apparently, there will be some other options in the near future.

Yeah, that's right laughing all the way to the state. They don't win this w/o being on their home court again. 4 out of 5!! I bet there are 3 or 4 teams in the 10th Region that could say the same thing if it was on their home court!!!!!!!!!

 

And NOBODY can argue that!! That is why they don't host the SEC tourney at anyone's home court anymore.

 

Mason County has won the 10th Region four out of the last five years. Year to year, they truly are the most dominant team in the region. Congrats to them and good luck against the 4th Region.

If you think that a team could have beaten Mason Co. during the Chris Lofton years, on any court, you do not know the game of basketball very well. Remeber the state title? The state runner-up?

 

As for last night, Mason Co., for the first time, was not the dominant, overwhelming favorite that they have always been when they won the regional tournament. As a result, I don't think anyone can claim homecourt was not potentially an advantage.

 

With that said, where else could the game be played? Sour Grapes.

What are they doing in the same region if they're 2 hours apart?

Most regions are big. It was well over two hours for Estill County of the 14th to reach the regional tournament at Knott Central this year. Next year it will be held at the new Letcher Central gym, and the Powell's and Estill's will again have to drive about 2 hours to get to the game. However, since the 14th region rotates it's venue among six schools (Knott, Letcher, Powell, Perry, Breathitt, Hazard) everyone in the region gets a fair shake whenever the tournament s in their neighborhood. For instance, when Powell hosts the tournament in 2008, Estill will have about a 15 minute drive to the game, whereas the schools in the southern part of the region will have their turn to drive two hours.

It works out fine in the 14th. Sometimes fairness is just as important as money.

Knowles and Jones make a good combo but Miller and Middleton make a better combo. Congrats to the Royals

Okay.....I was just given an opinion. No offense intended.:thumb: I just like the way we do it in the 14th.

Knott Central seats 5000, but I wouldn't want them to host the tournament every year.

Homecourt, Refs, Seating, parking, long drives. Its the finals and you know its coming. You have to be prepared for all that could and will happen.

 

Mason knows how to close out a game, they have done it the last four games. Like a wise basketball mind once told me "no excusess play like a champion" Both teams played hard. It was pointed out befor it came to missed free throws and free throws only.

 

The fans that threw bottles onto the floor after the game really tarnished what was a Great Game. I also saw some fans get walked out after the halftime break. With all the cameras in that gym why would you do someting that would draw attention.

 

I can't wait to go to State Tourny. Have never been there befor and will take my two sons for their first trip too.

 

 

Chris Lofton, what a class act. I stood In stands and watched him sign ballcaps and shirts for little and big kids alike. Glad to see he remembers where he came from.

You do not have the crowd sizes to deal with in the 14th region like there is in the 10th. Switching the tournament to another gym in the tenth right now would eliminate potentially 1-2 thousand people from watching the semifinals and finals.

 

For those of you who do not know, the tenth region is widely considered the most attended and best regional tournament in the state. Not by the talent of the teams, but by the atmosphere, tradition and balance the region has.

There is no way that there is not homecourt advantage...
