Favorite/best dish you have had at a restaurant

Featured Replies

Saw something mentioned about Goldie's banana pudding and it got me to thinking about best dishes I have had in a restaurant.

I'm a BIG dessert guy, love my sweets, especially of the homemade variety. Something that really sticks out to me is the banana pudding I had at Dreamland BBQ is Tuscaloosa, AL a few years ago. I still talk about it to this day it was so good. I don't know what they did to make it so good, but I haven't had any quite like it. What are some of your favorites?

The seafood fettuccine at The Precinct is awesome. I get it as an appetizer. Smaller potion but made table side.

I like going to The Glitz in Nonesuch, Ky with my friends on special occasions. The menu changes but the one dessert called the Nonesuch Kiss can always be found. The Nonesuch Kiss… a baked meringue shell filled with jamoca ice cream, hot fudge sauce, toasted sliced almonds, whipped cream and a cherry. The house specialty!

Bronte` Bistro, inside Joseph-Beth Booksellers (Lexington Green).

The Olympic Salmon Salad. The coating on the salmon is to die for. When I try to duplicate it at home, I'm in the ballpark, but their version is incredible.

Dang, now you've gone and done it. How am I supposed to get anything done while I'm thinking about that?

I love the Quesadilla Hawaiana (A flour tortilla stuffed with chicken, onions, pineapple, covered with cheese sauce, and served with rice and beans) at Mi Tierra in Fort Wright, KY.

Well, most of the food you get at Boi Na Braza is excellent. But the bottom sirloin and house cut picanha are the ones that stand out most in my mind.

Do the burnt ends at Oklahoma Joe's in Kansas City count? That's the best food I've ever put in my face.

Lots to choose from. One of my favorites is the "Mediterraneo" from Melini Cucina. Shrimp, mussels, clams, calimari sauteed in white wine with marinara sauce and plenty of pasta.

Sounds awesome.. When I was on the road building cell/radio towers we got tired of fast food and started making our own dinners a few night a week. While in Louisianna our go to meal was exactly what you described minus the calimari.

As far as my favorite, ill have to get back to you all on that as I have several. The best food I've ever had from restaurants in my life has came from Savannah, Georgia, with Charleston SC a close second.

First time I ever had shrimp and grits was just outside Columbia, SC. Great stuff.

Never was a fan of grits until I had them in Charleston, completely different that what you get in other parts of the country.

I have eaten at so many restaurants since I left Kentucky, I don't think that I can pick a single favorite dish, but the shrimp and grits at Julep's in Jackson, Mississippi ranks at or very near the top of my list. Nearly all of my favorite American dishes are southern in origin. An exception is the Imperial Crab from the Kentmorr restaurant on the shore of Kent Island, Maryland.

Many years ago, I was visiting an old college roommate in Houston, and he took me to a Cajun place called Pappdeaux. It started out as a local chain in that area (the Pappas group also does a number of other styles of restaurants, such as Mexican and steakhouses) and was just beginning to expand to Texas' other major cities.

Anyway, I had a fantastic dish called the Pontchartrain — pan-seared redfish encrusted with crab and shrimp with a buttery red wine sauce over dirty rice — and some gumbo. That pretty much kick-started my deep love of Cajun/Creole/Louisiana-style foods.

I had something similar at the Cajun Steamer in Franklin, Tn
