I'm struggling to remember the last "major election" that featured two really excellent candidates running positive campaigns.

I do want to ask, though, why do we expect anyone to tell who they voted for? The voting process is designed to ensure that one can cast one's vote without anyone knowing who they voted for. Why, then, should one be compelled to divulge that information. I don't think we have any RIGHT to know.

THANK YOU! I agree that she should have responded a bit differently while still not giving a yes or no answer. As you and she basically said, it's non ones business who anyone voted for in an election where ALL people vote privately.

 

When we start having elections where your name must appear on the ballot so others can see who you cored for, then we can talk about who voted for who!

 

When you are in DC and casting votes, that is a different story, as all of your votes are public.

 

I will tell you, that in 2008 Alison was very against Obama, as was I.

 

These questions about who voted for who is irrelevant! Period! It's a last ditch attempt to get some voters off of the real issues, of a very unpopular incumbent. No matter how she would have answered people on the other side would use it against her, plain and simple.

For an everyday private citizen, I agree, who they voted for is no one's business, you should be able to keep that private. When you are running for public office, by its nature, I believe you voluntarily give up a certain degree of privacy for the benefit of the voting public to learn about you and what your position is on the issues. In many cases, you can just look at the candidates voting history if they served in some legislative capacity or if they served as mayor/governor/etc. you can get an idea from that also. With ALG, all you can go on is the candidates word, and historically, that doesn't work out very well - remember "You can keep your insurance/doctor" promise from Obama? How did that work out? For all candidates, regardless of party, I want to know more than just what they say because what they say often really doesn't mean all that much.

 

So, in this case, I would think the media and the public are more than justified in asking for her presidential votes in 2008 and 2012. Per Wikipedia, she served on the rules committee of the 2008 Democratic National Committee and was a two time delegate to the Democratic National Convention supporting Hillary in 2008 and Barack in 2012. Assuming that is the accurate, she might as well came out and said she voted for Barack both times, based on the above and the fact that she won't answer the question, I would have to think most people have come to the conclusion that the voted for Barack. She could then find some way to spin it that she is disappointed in the president but could not have supported a corp fat cat big wig like Romney or whatever else the Democrats labeled him as.

 

But, to say the voting public and the media are out of line to ask who she voted for in the past two presidential elections, I disagree.

Asking a politician running for office how they voted is not compelling them to say how they voted. It would be negligent if the media to not ask a candidate who so many people expect would be a rubber stamp for the Obama agenda how they voted in 2008 and 2012. ALG is running away from Obama after supporting his agenda. She has every right to refuse to say how she voted and voters have every right to hold her refusal against her.

I am thinking refusing to answer is hurting her more than answering and adding the spin like I said. By not answering, she just put herself on the front cover of the Courier Journal. If you are a Democrat and the CJ is going after you, you are really in the mud. Had she admitted to it and spun it, it would have been one line on page 8 and other than a few loudmouths, no one would have made much of it. Much less damaging.

Zero? I don't know about that but your past voting history is often a better indication of your future voting than what you say you will vote for. That is why so many people are having difficulty accepting she will protect coal and the second amendment.

Stop it. She is running for office where she is going to vote for the entire state. The campaign should have known that most citizens would want that simple question answered.

 

I don't buy the privacy stance at all . She just doesn't want to admit she voted for Obama.

I disagree wholeheartedly. I believe ouour system of choosing our representation at any level works because one has the right to vote without fear of reprisal. I don't think the question should even have been asked, let alone that she has a duty to answer. Asking how she voted on issues is a different t animal and is a matter of publicense record. One does not give up the right to vote or not divulge who they voted for in any election simply because they are running for office.

 

And let's be honest...that question was going to be a catch-22 for her no matter how she answered, or if she didn't answer.
