Is it time New Cath and Beechwood stopped scheduling the 6A schools?

Featured Replies

I think the N. Ky. 6A schools have their programs in line. They are mostly two platooning. Neither New Cath nor Beechwood has beaten a 6A school in the past two seasons. With schedules being reworked this year, I think it is time for these two small school powers to downsize their schedule. All they are going to get out of playing the N. Ky. 6A schools is injuries. What do you think?

Mass is about to start, I'll get back later after I pray about it.

It's time for the 6A schools to stop scheduling 1A schools.

At one time, some may have thought it was time for some of the bigger schools to stop scheduling some of the 1A schools. As much as some are against this, I'm not completely. It's how you get better and prepare for district play and the postseason.

Hey Yo...

The problem is that NCC and Beechwood are playing the best 5A & 6A schools. Beechwood plays CovCath, Simon Kenton, Dixie and Franklin County while NCC plays Simon, Cooper, Campbell and Dixie. It might make sense for Beechwood to play a natural rival like CovCath and NCC plays Campbell County on a regular basis but the rest of the schedule is just too difficult.

The problem then becomes "Who do you play"? The weaker 6A and 5A schools won't likely schedule them. There are no 3A schools in NKY.

Beechwood would be better to schedule Lloyd, Newport, NCC, Holmes, WVerona type teams. Not the powers that SK, Dixie or CC is, but, still decent teams that'll challenge them.

I know for a fact Lloyd will not play Beechwood.

And here we go again.....Beechwood can't catch a break. What about Boone County? I heard the pee wee Senior Spartans could beat them this year. Why aren't we talking about their coach or who they schedule?

Possibly because this thread is about BW and NCC ?

I never thought I would hear this from a Beechwood fan, things must be worse then I thought. Have we forgot what made Beechwood Beechwood, or Mayfield Mayfield, or NCC NCC? Why do you think schools like Raceland started scheduling larger schools? They followed Beechwood's and Mayfield's playbook. Heck, Raceland went to camp at Mayfield years ago to find out how Mayfield competed with larger schools. Do you think Mayfield is going to stop playing McCracken County, or other larger schools. Is Frankfort going to stop playing Franklin County?

Sure, stop playing them, make it easier on the other 1A schools. Have at it.

Right now, I believe Mayfield is the only small school that has the talent and depth to compete with a TOP 10 6a school. Scheduling largerer or better programs is good if you can compete with them. If you can't, then it becomes demoralizing and dissension spreads.

I was thinking this last night but yes who do they play? Newcath keep campbell maybe play scott? Keep cooper maybe putn in one class A school. Has to be hard to keep kids from gettimg down and frustrated during the years when they cant compete with the bigger schools week in and week out. How about play Holmes maybe...

I say keep playing them. The past couple of seasons the Breds have taken the "L" against the big schools, and for the most part, the games are fairly competetive. If NewCath were getting shutout in these contest on a regular basis, then yes by all means change it up, but that's not the case. I'll admit, it's no fun watching them get beat the way they are, but I think it prepares them for the playoff run and I think history supports that. I think this year is just one of those seasons were key positions are still a work in progress. IMO, 29-25 against these teams is a very respectable record.
