I hope the NFL extends the suspension to a year.

 

If he is picked up after that then I don't have a big problem with it. What I'm most dissapointed in is there weren't any domestic violence or assault charges brought on. Doesn't matter if she doesn't want to press charges, many states have laws in place that if a law enforcement officer believes there was domestic violence involved then they are to arrest the suspect even of the victim doesn't want to press charges.

 

He needs at least 1 year suspension. If that is the case then I will not say he doesn't deserve to make a living, but just make sure he is punished.

 

He was charged with a felony after the police saw the video. He took a plea bargain where his punishment would be counseling instead of prison.

Looks like "The NFL" is playing dumb only like you I do not believe them.

For sure, but of all places, you know a casino would have cameras everywhere and would be keeping their footage. I'm sure the NFL has enough flex to muscle their way into getting their hands of a copy of the video one way or another.

This is weak. Either suspend him for the whole season when the initial investigation concluded or don't. Stick with what you already ruled. I am confused (not really I know why) on how the NFL can increase a suspension when no new incidents have happened. They KNEW that Rice knocked out his fiance. They knew that. That doesn't just happen, it is a very very violent act. So, they hand over an EXTREMELY soft punishment and took a HUGE PR hit (pun intended) for it. Now that the "new" video was released, they have a chance to make up for their past mistake and take it. It is a cop out for the NFL. There is no way that they didn't have that video evidence. I find it hard to believe that they didn't know all of this, realize that they screwed up, and prayed for an opportunity to win a PR coup. They took it.

I do think this is all going to be a PR nightmare for the NFL and Goodell. I completely agree with everything you're saying.

 

However, no matter how messy it is, I'm not gonna stop watching MNF tonight or the NFL next week and neither will anyone else. So, how does it really hurt them?

How will Goodell rationalize the indefinite suspension after releasing the new policy? I would assume the union will get that reduced to 6 games? Now whether any teams will give him a chance if that did happen who knows.

This should have been done from day 1. As was mentioned earlier they didn't even need the video that came out this morning to suspend him Indefinately. Goodell did a little too little a little too late.

Here's the problem. They had all of the facts that they needed to make a decision RIGHT after this happened. They knew that he punched her. Both parties said that. Making a decision now b/c the actual footage came out and people are incensed is a cop out plain and simple. The Ravens cut Rice b/c the NFL was going to suspend him for the year. They wouldn't have done it w/out knowing that he was done for the year. His loss of form didn't make keeping him around worth the wait and headache. If he went for 1800 last year on 4.8 ypc, rest assured the Ravens would still have him on the roster.

Wow. I didn't know that Goodell had moves like that. He can backpeddle like a champ afterall.

If you search back on when the incident occurred, multiple media outlets reported that both the Ravens and NFL had viewed video from inside the elevator.

 

Then both of them should be ashamed of their unethical conduct.

That's why he suspends him indefinitely. The NFLPA will have to file a grievance to get the policy adhered to. Once they do that they become the bad guys and the NFL looks like the "good guys" for "trying to do the right thing".

 

I would not want to be an officer in the NFLPA. In this case they have to defend him. The policy is 6 games for a first offense. Clear cut. They have a good case.

Yes and that is why the Ravens as I said earlier is also to blame for acting so late in this. They should have suspended him for games even before the league did.

Agreed. And there's a range of "sports journalists" more than willing to help the NFL out in that endeavor. Peter King reported this summer that the NFL had seen this tape in his column mostly defending Goodell. Now he's out today reporting the NFL had never seen this tape.

Wouldn't Rice go straight to a court of law in this case? After all, the NFL passed judgment, and now they want to change direction because they (The NFL) got outed with the video being released. In other words, the NFL was protecting the brand and Ray Rice was their boy in this one and now it's "all blowed up."
