Last week HHS played seven o-linemen. None had ever started a varsity game at o-line prior to last week.

One had never dressed in a varsity game. One was a sophomore. Two had played in a varsity game but not on the o-line. Three played o-line last year but never got in before the fourth quarter. I have to believe the jitters will be fewer and fewer penalties. Cut down on the mistakes and HHS brings home a hard fought win.

This matchup will be No different than any other Highlands game and opponent imo...

A chance to topple the states most storied program comes with a price tag and target on their back. Highlands pays that price every single week for as long as I have been around the program and that target gets bigger and bigger every yr. It may sound elitist or silly to some but until you have been there I do not expect you to understand. Highlands can never let its guard down. The program must and will continue to respect their opponents and not take any team lightly.

 

Can they be beat? Absolutely...

is what great programs do, they rebuild and experiment during a game and still win, the average fan has no clue whats going on in the Highlands camp and thats just fine with me:thumb:

HHS will continue to struggle as these guys learn the ropes but I don't doubt they will be clicking by the end of regular season.

I think I'm in this camp this week. With the athletes Bryan Station has, they have the ability to score quickly and step up in key areas on D. With the struggles I've seen from the Birds so far, this one could be very interesting in my opinion. I too hope I'm wrong, but until the Birds clean it all up (which I have no doubt they will), they seem vulnerable to me. But I have no doubt by the end, they will be back to where we expect them to be.

If station's coaches can keep calm and stay balanced on offense they could make it interesting..and some of those highlands linemen had to have played last year against station I think everyone played that game

None of the O line played in the game last year. BBW told you how it is with the O line.

Does Station have a chance to win this game, most definitely. Can they keep their composure & not self destruct is the answer that everyone is searching for. They beat Harlan Co. by nearly 30 points, but that was a very run heavy, hardly ever pass kind of team. They played St. X really tough & no doubt put a scare in them @ one point or another in the game. That school is always full of athletes, it is just having the right people to harness their energy & athleticism into a complete game of football every Friday night.

 

Lexington football has been up & down for quite some time honestly. only 5 high schools & the talent base gets spread thin across the board in football. It honestly comes from the ground up though. From what I know, the town doesn't have well established leagues for the kids to play in & many have their first experience to organized football in middle school, shocking for a city of 300,000+. By this time, the county schools are well passed them & thats why they get their brains bashed in by the likes of Scott Co every year (most notably) every year.

 

Scott Co.'s coach has built his high school program from the little leagues up. The middle schools run a stripped down version of the high schools offense & defense & I have heard that is even filtered down into the city leagues. The 5 city schools in Lexington have 11 middle schools that feed into those 5 & they are not districted equally, some highschools have 2 middle schools that feed into them, while others have 4 or 5 according to where they live. It works against the powers that be to be able to filter down into those schools to incorporate a workable scheme that is passed onto the kids that move from the middle school to the high school.

 

It would be near impossible to do but with the new high school opening in a few years, they need to add a 12th middle school, then break them down into a 2 to 1 feeder pattern then that would allow them to begin the process of building these programs into something more than what they are currently.

@Jack of all trades man mostly every kid that dressed last year had to have played last year against station they had like 50 at half I think

@Johnny Utah you hit it dead on the nose and everyone one is doing their own thing Lafayette may rise in the next couple of years as the middle school coach that's a main feeder is on the staff

I will tell you how many snaps my kid got last year in the game. ZERO!!! Highlands offensive line consists of one kid that did not play football last year, two that played defense, one that is hurt. What else do you want me to tell you. The facts have been presented, if you choose to ignore them then that is your choice.
