Qryche11 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Dixie moves on The NCC / Dixie matchup will just as good as the Cov Cath/ HHS 2nd round game I predict. What a tourney so far.
Crossbar Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I didn't believe it when my friend texted me the result. Dixie is doing well right now, and they are dangerous. Holmes needs to get it together in the next 8 months.
benihanas Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 WOW! If you had told me 6 weeks ago that Holmes would lose first round, I would have thought you were crazy.
BGGreen Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Congratulations to Dixie for hanging in this year, and fighting through the tough times and injuries!! Two teams obviously headed in very opposite directions!!
shooter Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Dixie took a slight lead early in the first quarter but Holmes hung tough and pulled about even at the end of one. Midway through the second quater Dixie opened up a 12 point lead thanks to good shooting and passing (27-15?) but then Holmes forces some Dixie turnovers and Dixie missed some open shots and Holmes was able to pull within one at halftime (28-27?). Dixie was cold in the third quarter and Holmes took advantage to take the lead by 7-8 points (39-31?). I thought the turning point of the game came early in the 4th quarter when Jefferson was called for a foul, reacted to the call a bit too strongly and got a technical foul. Jefferson then had to go the the bench since he had 4 fouls. Dixie made three of the free throws and scored on the next possession to turn an 8 point Holmes lead into a three point Holmes lead. Dixie kept chipping away and finally took the lead with about a minute left to go. Holmes couldn't quite convert and Dixie made most of their free throws in the closing seconds.
Crossbar Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Good game analysis Shooter thanks for that. Jefferson still learning to keep his emotions in check, which seems to have cost him the game.
colfan80 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 The Colonels deserved to win and they outhustled the Bulldogs the whole game. You could really tell the seniors for Dixie weren't going to let this be their last game. Tough loss for Holmes, but Dixie really wanted it a lot more and it showed. Great game Dixie.
Guest oxide Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 It seemed Dixie was out of it until Jefferson's emotions got the better of him. Dixie seemed to gaion confidence after the free throws.
Raiderbback04 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Holmes went away from team ball on every one of their possessions in the final couple of minutes and they forced shots one on one instead of working as a team. Whoever had the ball near the top of the key drove for the forced shot. Dixie continued to work as a team down the stretch and made some nice passes. Holmes had the game won and then made too many mistakes and played selfishly IMO. Congrats to Dixie on pulling the upset.
BIGZIG Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I don't envy the job that Coach Henley is faced with each year at Holmes. No doubt the most difficult place in NKY to coach. Lots of talent but constant turmoil. He was able to keep it together last year but unfortunately with age these youngmen did not mature. Hopefully these youngmen can get their act together b4 next year because they will once again be one of the favorites but not if they can't keep all the outside influences from infecting their team. Wouldn't blame Coach Henly if he was looking for a little different situation. Congrats to Dixie for their win this evening..
NKYBOY1487 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Okay I was waiting to hear other opinions, statementsand points on the game but after that game I can't wait any longer. 1) Dixie did lead 27-15 with 2:30 left in the half. Went into the half up 27-26. Dixie came out flat, but so did Holmes. End of the 3rd Dixie 31 Holmes 36. Dixie couldn't a hit a FT and either could Holmes or this game would have been over. 2)The technical foul was legit and did cost them, but possibly not the game. Holmes was headed downhill at the time and jefferson got called for a legit 3rd foul. He reacted and was warned. He walked away and kept jumping and waving at the official got the T. 3 of the 4 FT fell and the game was back to 4 point lead for Holmes.. 4)Keener and Goenefeld? did a great job on Duran the whole game and had some great steals. 5) Why doesn't Austin Hill just take over early on so he doesn't have so much pressure and defense on him towards the end? 6) Edmondson played a nice game. Best I've seen him play since early last season. He wasn't just looking for the 3pters. But the kid needs to learn to distribute the ball better. He is a nice option, but shouldn't be the #1 option on this team. 7)Duran Jefferson isn't the best point guard in the Region. He isn't any better than he was last year and possibly is declining. Why is this? 8)I felt bad for Henderson, he had a legit shot at a tip in to tie the game up with 5tics left. It just didn't go. He is the real deal, and with some improvement from the perimeter he'll be a big D-1 prospect. 9)#32 for Dixie played a nice game off the bench. He did a good job on Hill and made some big plays off the bench. 10) Dixie won and Lawson might have had the worst game I've ever seen him play. Just could't hit a shot from the field. But he did hit the big one. 11)Many thought I was crazy in an earlier thread for taking Dixie, to me the is was the easiest prediction of all. All is well in BulldogLand???? I don't think so. I said it last year, this group will not win another regional title like the 3peat some believed in.
