I like the Blue colonels in this one, in fact I expect them to make a statement about their standing in NKY this week. I believe they have the talent to be the top team in the area by year's end. There I said it !

Overall, The team hasn't been a tuff football team under Dave wirth. I don't know if it's a philosophy thing or what. Last year Cov Cath had a huge offensive line. Overall big kids. I just don't see why they refuse to put an emphasis on the running game when they obviously had one of the biggest lines. That's the difference between Rodenburg and Wirth. Rodenburg understood he could run the spread offense but put a heavy emphasis on the run game. Thats why I believe he's gone on to win 2 more state titles at Moeller. I know this is DIXIE vs CCH thread by Colonels wear blue asked for my opinion. And also in my opinion, CCH will not beat highlands playing this spread game, lets throw it 45 times type of game. CCH beats highlands by running the football and controlling the game. Over the past few years it's almost predictable to watch because highlands knows exactly what CCH is gonna do. And i honestly think it's disappointing CCH community is content with a coach who obviously refuses to change his philosophy for the betterment of the team and after an 0-8 start vs highlands. It's just disappointing.

Wasn't going to dive into any of this, but after this post it's clear your resentment is towards Wirth and not CCH. Thanks for clearing that up.

no resentment at all. I have been following Cov Cath football since i was little. I went to Cov Cath and nothing would please me more than their success. But would you admit something is not right?

It is a different day. Fields are made of turf (Fast Play). Typically very good conditions (Unfortunately no more or at least fewer MudBowl games) Spring ball and summer 7-v-7 allow for development of timing between QB and receivers.

Today's game is different than in years past. It used to be the bigger, tougher, meaner, nastier guys won. Now typically the smarter, faster, better prepared teams win.

When I think about smash mouth football, I think about the kid from Ryle that blew out his knee his senior season. I would have to say there aren't too many of those smashmouth type teams anymore (Ryle's not that way anymore) where you have a hardnosed RB carry the ball 30+ times a game. We won't see that again unless a legit D1 running back comes along. So if you don't have that D1 STUD, the ball is going to be thrown around to the small, skinny, fast, and though not Smash Mouth type players, they are still "Tuff" as they have to take hits and keep coming back.

I challenge you that Cov Cath is not "Tuff". I guess we will have to see Saturday morning.

I agree on football as a whole, it's the trickle down affect. Changes start in the NFL, then you see those same changes in College Football, then they occur in High School Football. The days of the three down running back are far gone in the NFL, college has followed suit, now we are seeing it in high school. What's to come? The NFL is now talking that the days of the running back being the difference maker are gone and now teams are relying more on wide receivers then running backs. I'd say in 10 years, or less, we will see the same thing in high school. Right now the running game is king in high school, no matter what offense you run, but soon, the game will be about the wide receivers and running backs will be blue collar only.

Sorry to interrupt the thread, good topic to discuss though.

Good luck to both teams bright and early.

Glad to hear you are a Colonel Alumni but I disagree with them not being tough under Wirth.

The game has changed: CCH has always had a massive line and are physical. That has not got them past HHS for awhile now. They now have gone spread and have gotten closer every year because HHS is all about speed. This year they are really trying to capitalize on the speed they have.

Seems like your focusing your beef with offense and perceived lack of a running game ( which I disagree with since the QB in Cov Cath's offense is considered another running threat with designed QB runs and they have had much success with that in place.) When Highlands has won recently, it's usually been because their offense has been so quick strike through the air. Not ground it and pound it. The difference is speed- they usually had more of it on offense than Cov Cath had on defense.

Has zero to do with "toughness".

Any chance they can move this game back to 1pm so that I can make it? I would really like to see this game! Cov Cath in a nail biter

CCH - 28

Dixie - 24

Negative on the time change. This one's all about the heat, so they aren't going to risk things moving it back to 1:00.

I think CCH takes this one and pulls away big in the second half. Too many weapons on offense and I look for Wags to have another huge game.

Side note: A "3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense doesn't make you a tough football team. You can still have a physical offense out of the spread, which CCH has.

Also, CCH has had a run emphasis every year Coach Wirth has been there with the exception of 1 which was in 2012

I don't really care who wins, I have family on both sides, played for both schools. I just hope it's a good clean hard fought close game with no injuries or heat related issues. And at the end, both teams can shake hands with respect knowing they gave it all on the field.

no injuries or heat related issues.

Last I checked, the forecast calls for 74°/74° heat index at kickoff; 83°/86° heat index at noon. Should be good.

Another poster from the Cov Cath camp? I'll always welcome that. Glad to have you here, Colt :thumb:
