Satanic temple seeks Hobby-Lobby-style exemption from anti-abortion laws

Featured Replies

Without getting into a protracted debate religion/God needs to be out of all law/government/etc.

Isn't that how the court ruled in the Hobby Lobby case? They said that the government cannot tell them how to practice their religion.

Hobby Lobby opened up an enormous can of worms. What will be most interesting will be the way the lower courts interpret the "religious exception" in cases involving Satanists, witches or radical Islamist academies.

Yep, darn them for fighting for their religious beliefs.

After re-reading it, just in case there was something there I overlooked, I have serious suspicion that this is nothing but a headline grab. If there was more than "bias and medically invalid" information, it would have been prudent and simple to cite it for everyone to see. Instead, it's veiled in suspicion. Without knowing the material details, like everyone else, my gut says hogwash.

I don't fault Hobby Lobby for what it did. However ...

Whenever a high court rules that entity X's religious beliefs take precedence over law Z, then a group that "worships" 180 degrees different from entity X also by law is entitled to similar relief. Correct? So what's good for the children of God also applies ... legally speaking ... to the followers of Elvira Queen of Darkness.

Which is why separation of church and state is important.

I'd say ObamaCare opened that can.
Again, this is what Kansas is required to give those who are seeking an abortion...

I love this document. If I were a woman seeking an abortion and some of the things mentioned in this document happened to me and I was not told, I'd be VERY UPSET.

What are the Satanist complaining about exactly, is there an example of what they find offensive?

Interesting in Kansas:

Any physician who fails to provide informed consent prior to performing an abortion may be guilty of unprofessional conduct and liable for damages;

theguru, please read the Kansas link and tell me what you find offensive, or religiously oppressive, if any.

I'd say ObamaCare opened that can.

Bingo!

Then why is Obamacare crossing that line?
