With all due respect there have been Mayfield fans making excuses in this thread alone 2 years plus after the game...

 

I see where bac is coming from reading this thread as an outsider and he as probably the lone Hazard supporter on this site surrounded by a nice contingent of Mayfield fans and Beechwood fans who somehow try to validate themselves as well through the team that beat them.

 

When you see posts or isolated statements/ back handed compliments like this almost back to back:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is only fair to speak up for your team and address them.

 

I am not a Hazard fan but do respect their program, especially their Head Coach who I think is as classy they come. You also won't find a bigger proponent of the Mayfield program who over the pas decade has been pound for the pound one of the Top 3 programs in the Entire State in my eyes...

 

With that said I think the best team in 2011 clearly did win and even if Mayfield was at 100% I still think Hazard wins and turns heads in doing so. The Bulldogs absolutely dominated the Line of Scrimmage that game on both sides of the ball and Dixon had Mayfield game planned beautifully and it seemed Hazard was always a step quicker reacting on defense. Jackson was a phenomenal player but even if he was healthy he would have been running into a wall defensively.

 

What noone has discussed about that game is MAYFIELD HAD 26 RUSHING YARDS ON 18 CARRIES. This is a testament to Hazard's dominance that game up front and their game planning.

Trust me, I am not a Mayfield supporter (though I do have tremendous respect). You also neglected to put in the full context of my post(s) which was basically saying these two teams were on par with one another. If Mayfield was indeed better, it was by a slim margin taking away what many people would describe as an upset. It was not that.

I thought Hazard won the game up front. A place Mayfield is accustomed to dominating.

Hazard has the trophy and that's really all that matters.

 

I will say Mayfield has the 93 2A trophy and most knowledgeable fans will say they were not the best team in 2A in 1993. Danville was. Sometimes the moon and stars align just right.

 

Hazard is the 2011 1A Kentucky State Champions and deservingly so. They have a good program , Mayfield played with what they had and lost, that's football.

So in other words Mayfield's Coaching Staff lost that game in your opinion? Why did they have a RB who couldn't even run taking every single carry?

Just so we are clear here...I am neither a Mayfield fan or supporter. My opinion can't get much more "outside" since I have nothing whatsoever to do with or any buy-in to the program. I believe, with each team at full strength, Mayfield was the better team on most any given night that year.

And my nightmare continues

I am for moving on to talking about the times we beat Corbin, Somerset, NCC, Prestonburg, Bw, H, Fairview, Williamsburg or anything else so I can forget this one. Its like :deadhorse: to death!

I am no where near stuck on it. Some fans and people have given there respect and some haven't. I do care what people say and all I have ever heard is if these kids weren't hurt we would of won. Yes it is one title and I think those kids deserve the credit for winning it.

 

I can relate, reminds me of all the talk in Mf's win one year, I think it was 2010, when we beat H badly and a lot of folks chalked it up to H not being ready and fumbling it away when truth was simply that Mf hammered them. Same for Fairview year and William the following years
