Hazard had a solid team and they won when it counted, no doubt. With that said, they caught Mayfield at the perfect place at the perfect time. They play a week before, or maybe a week after, and in my mind it's probably a different outcome. As Bugatti said above, the best team doesn't always win, and I think this can be used as an example of that.

I thought Hazard was a solid champ. They won that game in the trenches, dominating the line play against Mayfield. When you can do that, you will win a lot of games.

Hazard was especially impressive on defense.

Yes, Jackson was hampered a bit with the torn miniscus but he still played well on defense.

 

I give the Bulldogs their due credit, I think they deserve it.

 

Mayfield lost one of their best linemen in the Beechwood game with a broken leg and they had to go with a freshman which didn't help. You get one chance.

As I have said many times over, this is a day I try and just forget. A combination of factors played in to the outcome in my opinion. Mayfield's 2 all state players were both playing hurt (Jackson and LaBront Scott) Mayfield was also missing 2 linemen, one was the best lineman on the team. Mayfield also looked to me like they underestimated H and finally H was a very very good team that was capable of beating Mf even at full strength

Also, the Beechwood was brutal, very hard hitting and both teams came out hurt. That was a lay it on the line game.

Hazard had a very tough game with pikeville the week before as well. Those two are rivals and it was very hard hitting and Pikeville lead the game by a couple touchdowns before hazard rallied back for the win.

We can pick nits and point to things affecting team's rosters, and Mayfield may have been the better team, but again, this was not some kind of huge upset. The prediction thread - which I remember - played it off like that, but if they played 5 times the games would have been competitive.

Yes, I think I have made it clear that it is a day I care to not remember as I have said numerous times. You seem stuck on dwelling on it and maybe that is because it is your only title or you somehow don't think we have paid proper respects despite your claim that you do not care what anyone else says. I can't see that though as I can't recall anyone from Mayfield making excuses. So I hope you have found whatever it is you are looking for and move on

I am no where near stuck on it. Some fans and people have given there respect and some haven't. I do care what people say and all I have ever heard is if these kids weren't hurt we would of won. I see where bac is coming from reading this thread as an outsider and he as probably the lone Hazard supporter on this site surrounded by a nice contingent of Mayfield fans and Beechwood fans who somehow try to validate themselves as well through the team that beat them.

Ok. I saw the game and Ill say it. They were lucky they caught Mayfield banged up from the previous week. There were more injuries tha

(Fat fingers) than Jackson in that game. I watched Mayfield all year and they were train wrecking teams. Hazard caught a banged up team BUT also caught a Mayfield team that came in overly confident and got beat...thats the way you would have to catch that team to beat them that year.

I am not a Hazard fan but do respect their program, especially their Head Coach who I think is as classy they come. You also won't find a bigger proponent of the Mayfield program who over the pas decade has been pound for the pound one of the Top 3 programs in the Entire State in my eyes...

 

With that said I think the best team in 2011 clearly did win and even if Mayfield was at 100% I still think Hazard wins and turns heads in doing so. The Bulldogs absolutely dominated the Line of Scrimmage that game on both sides of the ball and Dixon had Mayfield game planned beautifully and it seemed Hazard was always a step quicker reacting on defense. Jackson was a phenomenal player but even if he was healthy he would have been running into a wall defensively.

 

What noone has discussed about that game is MAYFIELD HAD 26 RUSHING YARDS ON 18 CARRIES. This is a testament to Hazard's dominance that game up front and their game planning.

Trust me, I am not a Mayfield supporter (though I do have tremendous respect). You also neglected to put in the full context of my post(s) which was basically saying these two teams were on par with one another. If Mayfield was indeed better, it was by a slim margin taking away what many people would describe as an upset. It was not that.
