No I don't think he meant to denigrate Jeter, I was disagreeing on the fact that he admitted he grooved one to Jeter is showing a sign of respect.

I don't have an issue with him throwing a fastball down the middle for Jeter to get a good swing on. It was still a big league fastball, it isn't like he threw it in there at 75 mph or told him it was coming. He should have kept quiet about it though. I do think too much is being made about it though. It isn't a big deal.

Who cares the Reds or Cards won't need home field advantage this year anyway.

Not true, and Simon certainly didn't groove any pitches to him when he faced him. Jeter got a hit off him when Simon was trying to get him out, and I'm sure Jeter probably respected that more.

The sad thing is that this is what's being talked about this morning, instead of the horrid coverage by Fox. No mention of Tony Gwynn or Don Zimmer AT ALL! Freakin' unbelievable. And, if there was nothing done at the game either...then shame on MLB too. At the very least, you could've had a moment of silence or put their pics on the Jumbotron. Instead we get a cover of a Bob Dylan song.

I think you're missing the point. The consensus is that there was nothing wrong for him grooving one for Jeter to hit. The issue here is Wainwright essentially is taking away the moment from Jeter and putting all the focus on him. If he didn't say anything we'd be talking about how awesome it was for Jeter to go 2-2 in his last all star game. Instead he was an idiot and blabbed about it. When reading the comments, they didn't seem jokingly at all.
