Yet another reason to hate the Cardinals.

I think you're missing the point. The consensus is that there was nothing wrong for him grooving one for Jeter to hit. The issue here is Wainwright essentially is taking away the moment from Jeter and putting all the focus on him. If he didn't say anything we'd be talking about how awesome it was for Jeter to go 2-2 in his last all star game. Instead he was an idiot and blabbed about it. When reading the comments, they didn't seem jokingly at all.

I'm not missing the point. If it wasn't a Cardinal pitcher that said this it would be almost a non issue on here.

Wrong.

Went back and watched DVR from game and actual broadcast shows First Pitch at 91 right down the middle but very low. The second pitch was 90 and just above the knees right in the middle of the plate.

Not sure why one of the replays last night showed the pitches at 94 and 87?!?!?!

Yes 91 in the dirt and 90 on the 2nd pitch. Not really throwing a gimme pitch. Wainwright is not a hard thrower.

89 to Trout, he must have grooved that one as well, 92 to Miggy, groove job.

Wainwright is a class act and I won't jump off a bridge because the comments took away from Jeter's 100 mention night on Fox. I don't think Waino realized the implications of what he said and then realized and was in a corner. I am surprised he said it and did given Wainwright is essentially playing for the World Series year in and year out, and how important home field is (2011 David Freese).

The bigger issues here are that this game counts, which has been said and hopefully changed. And that this Jeter love fest was so large that we couldn't even mention Tony Gwynn... No problem with giving Jeter respect, but to say that Wainwright is taking away from his moment...please... This is New York's guy and he's on a year long tour and is getting plenty.

He did everything right, until the comment. He seems first class. He said the day before that he is going to approach it like any other game and watch film, eat what he normally eats and keep his routine. He hoped that he would remember the significance of the AB and allow him to have his time. He most certainly did that. He then said he wanted to get him out. It just looks bad when you come back with a comment that you grooved him one AFTER you gave up a hit. Everyone suspects you would give him at least one center cut 4 seam fastball, no need to say it.

Wrong.

Then maybe the fact that he plays for St. Louis shouldn't have been in the title... Kinda hard to argue the other way when that's the case.
