Yet another reason to hate the Cardinals.

Looks like the PR department got to him quickly. Hat was a quick backtrack.

He's not even sure what his excuse is. He's not sure if he was apologizing to fans, Jeter, the NL, or denying he grooved one.

Pitch he hit was 94mph after 87 mph first pitch in the dirt...FWIW

You have it backwards.

1st pitch was 94 in the dirt. 2nd pitch was 87...

Your right

His excuse was terrible, id rather him just flat out admit it. He came off really bad

I agree. Just an all around Bush league move by Wainwright. I'm sure he was consulted by Carpenter.

Can a mod fix the typo, it's Crapenter.

.....

As much as I have tried this morning, I can't muster one iota of anger for Waino piping one to Jeter. Not an ounce. Complete non-issue to me.

I am with CC though, the issue to me is it is example #1,387,847 why this game shouldn't matter for anything. I think we've knee-jerked from the tie for long enough.

If he's going to groove one, then groove one. Don't admit it then immediately backtrack during a pathetic in-game interview where you blame social media for being misunderstood.

It was the on-air equivalent to tweeting something vulgar then claiming your account has been hacked.

Doesn't matter to me at all that he gave Jeter an easy one to hit. Annoys me that he'd admit it though. Just keep your mouth shut.

As is often the case we're on the same page. I was going to post "faux controversy."

And this is exactly why an All Star game shouldn't determine home field advantage.

No kidding, I can't believe that is still happening. That's a joke. That's the real issue here IMO.

During the ovation you could hear him say something to the catcher about where he wanted the ball. At least that's what it sounded like.

Is the issue that he threw Jeter a grapefruit, or that he said he did it? Because I see absolutely no issue with either, honestly.

If he didn't play for St. Louis, would this thread be here?

There must be disagreement for a controversy to exist. Here, it's unanimous that the All-Star game's significance is a joke and Wainwright was a jack wagon.

Sure. I don't care what team the pitcher would have played for. Both teams know the significance of the game whether they like the rule or not. They should be playing to win the game.

Did the at-bat cost the NL the game?
