Did the at-bat cost the NL the game?

 

Jeter led off with a double & scored on Trout's triple. Wainwright then gave up a 2 run HR to Cabrera. NL was down 3-0 after the 1st inning & lost 5-3.

Went back and watched DVR from game and actual broadcast shows First Pitch at 91 right down the middle but very low. The second pitch was 90 and just above the knees right in the middle of the plate.

 

Not sure why one of the replays last night showed the pitches at 94 and 87?!?!?!

Impossible to tell. You never know how he may have pitched Trout with 1 out, and nobody on.

You actually DVR'd the All star game?????? WHY?

I understand the issue with the All-Star game having the implications that it does. But I'm not going to fault a guy for "doing a favor" for a veteran of the game in his last All-Star appearance.

Is the issue that he threw Jeter a grapefruit, or that he said he did it? Because I see absolutely no issue with either, honestly.

I am not seeing what the issue is either. It is another example where fans misconstrue the significance of which they feel baseball players treat the Mid-Summer classic. They treat it as an exhibition and for a lot of them a hassle to even mess with. It is not a mystery as to why players often are hampered with an injury just before the game. I would hate the Cardinals for dominating the NL Central, not for treating an exhibition game like an exhibition game.

Then it's also impossible to infer that had he pitched to Jeter like he would in a normal circumstance the outcome of the game would have been any different.

1) That he did it.

2) That he said he did it.

3) That he said he didn't do it.

Wainwright should have grooved one to Jeter and kept his mouth shut. It happens all the time in these events and it goes unspoken. Wainwright broke the code by admitting to it.

 

Cardinals always find a way to take the fun out of everything.

Have no problem with him doing it. It's been happening forever. And if you think it doesn't happen in "real" games too, you're nuts. Check out the pitches Ripken hit in his 2131 game....Johnny Bench home run on Johnny Bench night....MEAT BALLS!
