ESPN's Top 50 Coaches Right Now

How is he not the same way?

Coach K would coach circles around Bo Ryan, gets McDonald's All Americans to commit to his school with regularity, coached the US National Team, and does it all with a school that's on the same level as Wisconsin academically. He's won national titles in different decades. He's the last coach to win back to back titles. He IS Duke basketball.

Wisconsin is a huge party school that might actually be more attractive to recruits than people think and the only big time recruit I can name that Bo Ryan has ever landed was Brian Butch, and he was a pretty big bust in terms of what he was ranked coming out of high school.

Sam Dekker was a 5* recruit.

I think Coach K will be #1. Cal #2 and Pitino #3.

Extremely difficult to recruit to Madison. It gives a whole new meaning to cold.

Richard Pitino but no Ray Harper? Garbage.

Horrible hire...worse dude.

Bjork blew that one, and I consider Ross a friend.

What do you mean? DM me

What do I mean? I think Ray Harper is a bad guy and was a horrible hire. I think Ross did a fair amount of good in his cup of coffee at WKU, but hiring Ray Harper wasn't one of them. He had a number of really good (and very interested) candidates for the job, but he went with the quick and easy route of promoting Ray from within. Both of the other two "finalists" would have been much better, but internal promotion was the path of least resistance so he took it.

Todd Stewart will ride him out WAY longer than he should.

You said he's a horrible hire. Why? Also you said he's a worse dude. What makes him a bad guy?

Have you ever been to Wisconsin?

Coach K is a great coach.....but he has flaws.

Billy Donovan is the last coach to win back to back titles.

You said he's a horrible hire. Why? Also you said he's a worse dude. What makes him a bad guy?

Won't be able to recruit nor retain top level talent, doesn't relate to the kids as well as he needs to, not great in the living room. Solid Assoc. Head Coach, not a head guy. Again, the other two finalists that Ross considered would have been WAY better, but Ross knew he was leaving soon so he took the path of least resistance.

What makes anyone a bad guy Wireman? If you've been around Ray much, you know the answer.

I have no axe to grind with Ray, the hire doesn't / didn't impact me one iota. I'm 100% sure if Ross had to do it over, and if he had thought he'd have been at WKU long enough for the grass to grow, he'd have hired a different guy. WKU's regression gets worse next year....and as my alma mater, believe me, I get no joy out of that.
