Hoge will be the QB IMO. Believe there will be a TE this year, just not sure who will be playing it. Kyler Dalton will be the center and is the only lineman returning with any varsity experience. Are we sure Veneman will be returning punts?

 

IMO Hoge will QB and run and throw in the offense. Kendall will carry along with Urlage. Hope Watson has an injury free season would be significant help. Defense should be strong! My concerns are the DB's. especially if Abner and Murray play LB's. The other position need is Oline. I have seen magic man do his work but this might be a season in which he has to pull out a rabbit! The return of the TE would be sweet! I would expect Hebel and Robinson might have to go both ways.

I wish I had a TE that was 6'4", 200+lbs, athletic, and had a lot of previous experience running the ball. It would be great if this kid was just standing on the sideline not being used on offense until 2015. Sounds like Austin Hergott.

First and foremost I want to give Ram a big shout out for "officially" kicking off the Highlands 2014 football season, I know our favorite and notorious staple of Highlands football poster Birdsfan would appreciate Ram doing this, so thank you Ram. I have a different opininion of how they will fair this yr because of obvious reasons and all I can say right now is "WOW"...

This may not be the biggest team they have had in some time, but it is a very, very athletic team with some very, very smart kids.

 

I can also tell anyone interested, I doubt Highlands will 2 platoon any kid this yr, jmo, next yr maybe, I doubt this yr and if they do it will be very minimal if at all. The cuppoard still has enough kids with the experience and atheletism to get it done.

 

Dale and Coach W has traditionally done a great job of making sure they never had a Sr dominated team any single yr and always had the 1 maybe 2 Soph and many Jrs starting or playing major roles for the team even know there may have been an equal or better Sr standing on the sidelines that could taken the younger kids spots.

 

 

The bolded is why the Birds will be just fine again in 2014 and will find themselves in familar territory as the season grows on and will eventually climb on top of the shoulders of the great Highlands teams before them and take their place in history. :thumb:

Hoge will be QB - there is no competition at this point. As others have said Hergott will need to get his work on the JV level much like Houliston did 2 years ago.

 

Tight end position will be used in most formations. Jack Telek is on top of depth chart. He has great size and moves well. He stands about 6'5" and has good hands.

 

Of the 9 wide receivers in the rotation last year, HHS graduated 4, Hoge moved to QB, Whitford strictly baseball, and Feggins to Warren Central. Seems depleted. Well a quick look at returning stats shows that the 2 remaining receivers in the rotation + the next man up have some decent returning numbers.

 

These returning receivers have varsity stats of 67 catches, 1352 yards, and 17 touchdowns. Cupboard not totally bare.

Is Mr Turner still there? If so we'll be ok by the end of the year, even if he has to move some DBs to the line.

If there was ever a yr that Highlands didn't absolutely have to have a great offensive line it is this yr.

 

They have some very good OL newcomers stepping into their respective positions but Highlands has not seen a QB of Hoge's caliber in some time if ever.

 

This is not your Fathers Highlands QB, this kid is special and will not disappoint Highlands fans this season.

 

I have been around Highlands football my whole life dating back to 1968 and all I can say about Beau is WOW...

 

There have been many greats at Highlands and about the only way I could describe this kid to BGP poster and HHS fans would be something like

1) McCoy smart

2) Gallichio (sp) option elusiveness

3) Gudughli kind of arm and accuracy

4) Beau knows football...:thumb:

 

This is a different kind of Highlands type QB folks and this season will be filled with thrills and highlights imo

 

Iam not setting this kid up for failure or disappointment as some will say but I am merely calling it as I see it.

We got some glimpses last year so I understand your enthusiasm, he should be fun to watch.

Who is going to be the starting running back?

Interesting idea about Hoge going to WR but I think you want your best athlete to have the ball every play.

 

Kendall and Daughtery(sp) I'm guessing are the running backs. Good combo of power and speed. Any seniors at running back that I'm missing?

 

If healthy, Josh Watson and Urhlage would make a heck of a tandem in this new offense.

 

Watson is a stud imo, and nobody has really ever seen him play because of back to back knee injuries.

 

Kendall has the burner speed but Griffey and Watson are the workhorses imo.

Coach T will have the new crew ready but it may take em a few games to gel like it did a couple years back or whenever that was when you got your lashes.

What I am most looking forward to is watching a fully mature Beau Hoge who will be 18 1/2 yrs old when he leads this Bluebird team. There is something to be said about not just the physical maturity but also mental. Beau has really grown a lot in the last year or so, I hardly recognized him in a pic from the Elite 11 camp. I wish him the best and know he will have a fantastic year in the shotgun or under Center.

 

I wonder if they are going to use him in any Wishbone formations? Anyone?

No doubt about it the first year HC uses a heavy Hoge show.
