Recommend that all fields have a warning track of at least five feet to indicate close proximity to fence.

 Recommend that the fence be made of wood or chain link if temporary

What is missing?

 

Said it was an error. Said the officials didn't rotate properly. Said they were not asked to officiate any more games.

 

It's not what's missing that makes it weak to me, it's the "with replay you can see it was a HR but umpires don't have that benefit" part that makes it weak. It was originally ruled a HR. Without replay, what did they see to overturn it?

 

The KHSAA should've just came out with the barebone truth aka "the umpires blew it and they cost Johnson Central a chance at a state championship which is being played at a complex not adequate for a state tournament.

 

To hide behind the lack of replay for umpires is a joke. And then to try and sweeten it with the whole "there are errors in every facet of the game" speal makes it worse. Did commissioner Tackett really have to recount a conversation he had with parents about a coaches strategy decision?

There was a photographer in the media box with me when HHS played Ashland the following game.

He was covering Ashland for a local paper down there or something.

He said that it was clearly a homerun.

"There was only 1 person in this ball park that thought it wasn't a home run. Unfortunately, it was the person that gets to make the call."

 

Like everyone else, I feel bad for that girl and her team.

HOWEVER, a month from now... 2 weeks from now... Heck 1 week from now, is anyone going to be talking about the homer that did end Ashland?

NOPE. *Other than the possible joke about it ending that way anyway.

BUT... Everyone will remember and talk about this girls home run that got stolen from her...

 

Wonder if we'll ever hear anything about it from the Ashland coach?

So to read that statement it looks like an appeal of judgment is not permitted. If the home plate umpire initially called it a homer as was written here, the game would have been over, and then that could not have been appealed?

 

But it was.

 

Talk about sentences that mean absolutely nothing with a lot of words that clarify nothing...

 

I thought the same thing. If that statement is true then the game ended when the umpire signaled home run and no appeal should've been allowed.

Move the tournament to the Lexington area and play the games at UK and EKU.

It was the most obvious home run ever. Poor effort by the officials.

That KHSAA press release is something else.

This is not the first time an error at "the big dance" has occurred.

 

Murray High football, last play of the game. 1994 the Beechwood Qb running around in the endzone and he hears the horn go off. So he throws the ball up in the air celebrating and the Murray player catches it in the air while standing in the endzone. Should have been a TD on the last play of the game. Murray High should have won. Instead an official blew his whistle for some unknown reason? No Td for Murray. In Louisville on a regulation size field. Not a double elimination game, but it was the Class A state title game.

 

Rupp arena, Hoptown vs Daviess County. 2003 Hopkinsville wins 61 to 59. Hopkinsville player scores while the horn and light behind the goal is lit. But the refs still count the basket; says they cant use replay nor the light; got to go by the sound. Lexington Herald the next day has a picture of the ball still in the hand of the player and the light is on. Once again an official counted the basket. Played in Lexington at Rupp Arena. The sweet 16? Yes

 

And finally, what comes around goes around. In 2000, Hopkins County Central vs Johnson Central in Rupp Arena. Tommy McKenzie gets a foul called in his favor while he is shooting a 3 at the end of the game? I believe he said, well the refs called a foul so I shot the free throws. Johnson Central wins the game. An official made the call in Lexington during the opening rounds of the sweet 16.

 

My point is if your still with me; it doesn't matter where you play the game. As long as humans are making the calls there will be mistakes. Some bigger than others. It would be great to have replay for every sport and for every play. We have to accept what happens whether its to the good or bad. Humans will continue to make mistakes. If you really want the experience, contact your local assigning secretary and become a referee or an umpire and find out how easy it is to be one. No I'm not an official nor referee. Just an old fan who has learned you never say, "I have now seen it all"!

That is correct. Trying to cram it into 3 days and playing 30 games in those three days causes need for facility with multiple fields. Jack Fisher Park is a very nice complex, but is a men's slow-pitch/youth baseball complex. Perhaps they could do a sectional format where two regions play each other in best 2 of 3 and then eight sectional champs go to state tournament at fast-pitch softball complex and play double elimination there over 4 or 5 days.

I'll second the question, why is the softball tournament double elimination?

Spread it out over a few more days and play it in Louisville at UofL and Bellarmine. Both very nice facilities (The DII championship has been played at Bellarmine). They are within 15 minutes of each other.

The ball went over the fence. It was originally ruled a homerun and the official took the winning homerun away!

 

It's a shame that the KHSAA came out with such a slap in the face response. Should of just said dude blew it and they are sorry! In the future we will give the young ladies the same respect we give the young men and play on approved sized fields meeting the criteria set by the KHSAA!

 

It was an awesome experience to see 16 teams come in with that much enthusiasm and excitement at one place.
