No different than a player being out by a step at first and arguing they were safe, players and coaches argue ridiculous calls every game. Players argue that they were hit by a pitch all of the time when they weren't...no big deal in this case...IMO

WYMT-TV has a video on their Facebook page of the game winning homerun. Clearly over the fence, the Ashland players knew they had just lost based on their reactions. The right fielder watched it go over the fence and dropped her glove and knelt down knowing her season had just ended.

How about being out by 8 steps and arguing? Sometimes you just have to do the honorable thing and it appears that may not have happened here.

I just watched the video... clearly went over the fence, the body language from the Ashland players supports this. How did the umps mess this one up???

That is what I don't understand. I rarely see umpires change their calls and there is nothing to support changing the call here.

The sad thing is the young lady who hit the HR will never have the hero moment she deserved. Too bad.

What a joke, WOW!!! In my 5 years off being on the NewCath staff, I have never questioned an umpires call (shook my head, disagreed under my breath, etc....), however I would have been led away in handcuffs if that happened to my team. How can 3 men in blue miss this one?

 

The facilities at Jack C. are nice, but it's a men's slow-pitch facility. The biggest tournament in the state needs to be played on a girls fastpitch field.....no exception. The KHSAA has rules as to field requirements to host a district or regional tournament, how about a rule for the state tourney.

Exactly. This really isn't a judgment call (or at least it shouldn't be).

I realize this is an ethics in sports and probably could use its own thread, but I wouldn't want to advance in the tournament on that play.

Ashland's next opponent is Madisonville-North Hopkins. They way they hit the ball, I don't think Ashland will be able to argue any home run calls.

Didn't even have the camera out of the bag at that time. We were waiting to play.

We heard that the guy with the video even tried to tell them it was safe but was "ordered" back upstairs.

 

 

TAKE WITH GRAIN OF SALT:

One parent said that khsaa tried to "confiscate" the video so that they could review it. But were rejected by the news crew that had it.

 

Another parent said that the HHS folks signaling homerun in agreement with JC were only doing so because HHS wanted to play JC instead of Ashland.

That's a little crazy thinking right there...

 

Sorry we couldn't take Ashland out. Hope someone does soon. If those kids make it to the finals, and god forbid, they win... The only thing that will be talked about is the game that they really LOST...
