  1. FROM the KHSAA web site - good for everyone but KHSAA
  2. Recommend that all fields have a warning track of at least five feet to indicate close proximity to fence.  Recommend that the fence be made of wood or chain link if temporary  If outfield fence is solid wall (i.e. brick or adjacent structure), this warning track shall be required. (sand composition is recommended)
  3. Worst call ever, I was at the game an you did not need a high speed camera to see it went over the fence. I also strongly disagree that the tempory fence did not add to the problem. Congradulations to JC for a great comback win, you guys should be playing on Saturday. I hate that hit , the biggest of that girls carrer was taken from her. I hope they make changes for future tournaments.
  4. Correct - look at the picture I just posted

  6. Another nice team win for the Birds. It was a very solid game by both teams. Only one error that I can remember for Highlands. Birds also turned 3 double plays! D is much improved from the beginning of the year. We were also without our best hitter (Shelby), who was really sick but played against Dixie. Looks like she my also be out for our game tomorrow in Lexington. Hope to have her back for Saturdays games. It has been a nice couple of weeks for Highlands.
  7. I would much rather play better teams. Padding stats and records playing a ton of less talented teams does nothing for the girls. The JV issue talked about above is different. I agree that is no fun for either team and does not help either team. That is a problem in the northern ky area. There is not enough girls at each grade to make a strong JV and Varisty team at a lot of the schools, plus there is no middle school feeder programs in place to help build dept and skills. There are areas (even in KY and especally in the south) that have very strong middle school and high school programs. There are very few girls good enough to even play JV in these areas while they are still in middle school. There are lots of middle school girls and under classman that play a big part on their varsity teams in our area, especially when it comes to pitching. They are good players, but in other areas there are multiple good player at each grade level which makes it harder to play up. Many of the girls on our JV team would be playing middle school ball in other areas, diffently no higher than on a freshman team. This is not a knock on those girls, many are being forced to play a higher level than they should because of the low number of older girls.
  8. They played better than JMU did against IU
  9. Dayton called off the game vs. Highlands because of the cold - This is our 6th game that has been called off this year. We will try again tomorrow against Conner and Dixie. Sure would have been nice to get a couple of games in before the Uncle Pete Invitational.
  10. Could have been a great site, I would of loved for the school to fix this site. But, we are looking forward to the new location. Problems: football on the field, we have not been able to get a real fence (Plastic one breaks and falls over) player fell through fence last year and hit her head on the bleachers, no restrooms, impossible of older fans and handicapped people to get down the hill, no lights, field does not drain at all (needs to be raised). If it doesn't stop raining soon, Beechwood my be the only school able to play on their field.
  11. Yes, the Higlands softball team has been living the dream. We have been playing on one of the worst fields in the area/state for a long time.
  12. I agree that ND looks to be the team to beat this year.
  13. Grosser, Quillen, Coffey and Leighty all have good speed. Graybill, Dutcher, and Turner all have good power with Graybill leading the way. Spencer will be the #1 pitcher with Leighty being a solid #2. They have sevral girls who can fill the 9th spot. They are not as deep as the top teams, but should be in every game they play with a solid chance to win most. Plus, all the girls will be together angain next year.
  14. Put the Birds on the much improved list. Post said we under achieved last year, but we only had 1 SR and no Jr's and did not play any of the stat builders. We have some nice power, D- should be much improved (infield and outfield), 4-5 players with speed, two good pitchers and a good coach!
  15. Can't wait for the girls to get out in the dirt - Love highschool softball!
  16. Birds are heading in the right direction. They should have a very soild team for the next several years. They have a young team (no Sr and couple of Jr), I think they will suprise some teams this year and a new field will only help them in the future.
