April 23, 201412 yr Shawn Kemp did NOT steal the jewelry. He was conned into pawning it. A lot of untruths out there. My understanding was he was with the friends when it was taken and he pawned it.

April 23, 201412 yr That's pretty stupid. Wow. What a list. I'm throwing Polson and Aaron Harrison onto this list just because. Starters: Wall Knight MKG Cousins Davis Noel Lamb Aaron Harrison Randle Bledsoe Young Polson That, wow what a lineup.
April 23, 201412 yr UK has had some outstanding players come through the program under Cal during the last five years. You're putting together a 12-man roster of players during those five years--5 starters & 7 subs. What does your team look like? I go like this: Starters: John Wall Brandon Knight DeMarcus Cousins Anthony Davis Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Reserves: Nerlens Noel Julius Randle Patrick Patterson Doron Lamb DeAndre Liggins Eric Bledsoe James Young The only thing that could stop this team would be the same thing that stopped John Wall's 2010 team and that is lack of shooters. In the starting lineup you only have Knight who would be a consistent shooter. I honestly feel this would be the better team starter wise in terms of the best chance of making a run and winning the tournament. Brandon Knight Doron Lamb Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Anthony Davis DeMarcus Cousins Reserves: John Wall Darius Miller Julius Randle Terrance Jones WCS Eric Bledsoe James Young
April 23, 201412 yr The craziest thing when looking at the Cal team is that they all (except this season and Patterson) could have played together on one team! 2012-13 possible roster Wall Sr Cousins Sr Bledsole Sr Knight Jr MKG So Davis So Noel Fr

April 23, 201412 yr  Like the look of your own posts? Some of us work. I do , unlike you mine are based on fact. I'm Sick of every time someone on here or anywhere else doesn't worship the ground UK players and coaches walk on they're a "hater". It's a dumb made up word that has no real meaning. The insinuation was there that UK has different rules than UNC or anyone else has to follow and its a common theme amongst UK fans. It's tired. Kid in this instance, took money to play basketball. By the letter of the law it's about as open and shut as a case gets and had no bearing on what's happening anywhere else. Completely different circumstances. To imply otherwise infers exactly what I said above that you feel UK has a different set of rules than anyone else. It's a weak tired argument.
April 23, 201412 yr So, this really depends on what kind of 12 man roster you want and what you're picking for. If I were going to take a team into Olympic style play, and needed a bit of everything (i.e., not necessarily the 12 most talented... but guys who'd fill roles, bring it in practice, be solid in the locker room, etc.), here's what I'd go with. Incoming freshmen are excluded. C - DeMarcus Cousins PF - Anthony Davis SF - Michael Kidd-Gilchrist SG - Eric Bledsoe PG - John Wall 6 - James Young 7 - Doron Lamb 8 - Nerlens Noel 9 - Patrick Patterson 10 - Julius Randle 11 - Marquis Teague 12 - Kyle Wiltjer Toughest Omissions: 1 - Brandon Knight 2 - Enes Kanter 3 - Aaron Harrison 4 - Alex Poythress 5 - DeAndre Liggins 6 - Terrence Jones 7 - Willie Cauley-Stein 8 - Dakari Johnson 9 - Dominique Hawkins Comments: Give me the first five and I'll show you a team that has a weakness as far as outside shooting goes, but that's about it. I'd build the team around Davis and Cousins, because I'm not sure that there's a duo of bigs anywhere in the world that could combine to shut the two out consistently. Hi-Lo with Cousins and Davis would just be gross. You've got an all-world defender, winner, and consummate teammate with MKG on the wing. Wall and Bledsoe, especially considering Bledsoe's success running a "2 Guard" offense in Phoenix, would be a lethal backcourt, but that might be the least of your worries, as most would probably try to pack it in and hope they were off. If Wall-Bledsoe-MKG weren't getting it done from the perimeter, there are plenty of athletic shooters on the bench. Start with Young (who'd be great in a "microwave" 6th man role), and if you roll a 7 or 11, just get less athletic by bringing in Lamb in as a zone-buster. Repeat your luck and bring in Wiltjer. There aren't any shooters past those, but I like the chances of 1 of the 3 gradually trading off some athleticism for the ability to make shots-- with the roster you have, Cousins, Davis, Noel, and Patterson will protect the rim and clean the boards and you are stocked with perimeter defense. DeAndre Liggins and MKG would wreak havoc defensively, but the team doesn't really have a need for him unless they need a true stopper when MKG gets in foul-trouble. Unfortunately, the only thing he really brings to the table is his defensive ability and you question whether having a 2nd lockdown defender is too much of a luxury. I don't think you can play he and MKG together if you want to score, and Liggins' offensive capabilities are pretty limited, especially on a team needing contributions from his weakest area- outside shooting. Marquis Teague is a true backup PG if Wall/Bledsoe fails. He's also a guy Cal loves and has repeatedly praised. His role in the 2012 championship is often understated, as the team really turned the corner as he refined his game. You know he'd accept his role and give his all in practice, which couldn't be bad for the team. In all honesty, he might be one of the most mentally tough kids in the whole lineup and if you look at his growth under Cal, you can see how he'd flourish even if it meant taking a backseat. Randle is a bull, but if there's a kid I'd replace, it'd be either him or Wiljer (may------be Patterson), in lieu of Knight. Knight can make shots, but seems like the type who needs the ball to be effective. I have reservations about how Knight would do in a backcourt with Wall/Bledsoe where he didn't really have the ball in his hands like usually has it; put the ball in Knight's hands and you've rendered Bledsoe or Wall as a 2G and you've started to see diminishing returns on their immense talent. In any event, I'll go with giving Randle the nod as another Teague-type player who'll scrap and claw in practice, wait his turn on the bench, and be a warrior. Seeing what he'd be able to do when he could just spin and bull through one defender instead of turning into the double would be fun. If the team weren't so stocked with bigs who can bring so many things that balance out the team to the table, Kanter would get a much harder look. Admittedly, and like most UK fans, however, I haven't really seen tons of his game. At any rate, if Cousins or Davis get in foul trouble, I'd put one at the 5 and you can go a variety of ways with Noel, Patterson, Wiltjer, Randle, or even MKG (on defense in limited amounts and according to his matchup) at the 4-- that means Kanter is expendable, as his style of play wouldn't really mesh with the up-and-down, run-n-jump athleticism of the group and he just doesn't have the same range as Wiltjer. I listed Aaron Harrison highly because he's a kid who can make a ton of shots and could flourish offensively with the open looks he'd see when guys like Wall ran the show. At the same time, he'd struggle defensively and would be a feast-or-famine type. Alex Poythress would be a great locker room guy, and is someone who could come off the bench and hit set shots, but unlike others, he has the ability to rebound and finish at the rim. Anywhere from next year to four years from now, we could look ridiculous for excluding him once he puts it all together. Terrence Jones is a good player who'll have a solid pro career, but his skill set just doesn't translate in a way that he'd add substantial value to this team. Willie Cauley-Stein brings length, athleticism, and shot-blocking, but who does he replace? Dakari Johnson is a kid whose reviews are a mix of Poythress and WCS. Potential, size, offensive skills that include a pair of soft hands and the ability to rebound and finish, but someone like AP and WCS, he's someone who hasn't put it all together yet. Dominique Hawkins is a kid I like for many of the same reasons as Teague, but he just isn't as talented most anyone on this list. Still, he's the kind of kid that you won't be hurting at all if he's by far your worst player and comes into practice everyday and shows up anyone who isn't working hard. I think he's a real sleeper in this if I'm building a team and want the whole package (i.e., a team that would live, eat, practice together, etc.).

I just question how some players are allowed to take benefits, realize it was a mistake, pay them back, and then serve a few game suspension and be fine for the rest of the season when others can't. I personally like Calipari's suggestions in regards to any violations which solves a lot of these problems, in my opinion: 1) Have a 3rd party, whose not part of the NCAA, make the decisions 2) Instead of having the name of the school, coach, player involved in the situation call it School XX and player YZ. This would keep any bias towards certain coaches, players, or institutions out of it. And before someone says, well of course a coach like Calipari would suggest that, I think it would be good for everyone because now fans would not be continually questioning the bias. They'd have nothing to try and make an argument out of it. I paraphrased those two points, but I think they both help provide a little more credibility and would get people like Jay Bilas off their back some. To read more of Calipari's suggestions for the NCAA, I recommend his new book, Players First. He has 13 points, mostly minor but they seem like good things to me.
