2. The overall driver in a lot of this is $$$, that's why Touchstone Energy sponsors it. Follow the money trail...

3. Think about this - there are classifications in almost every established sport (not sure about the new ones - Archery, Bass Fishing, Bowling, etc.)but one - Basketball (which does have an All "A" - see #1 and #2) but you know darn well the Sweet Sixteen will never change its playoff format to classification for the obvious reason.

4. You talk about sandbagging and trophy hunters, that is why they have classes in the Men's slow pitch softball tournaments - you choose which level to play. In the All "A", it may not be a sanctioned KHSAA tournament, but it is supported by them. So, win or lose, since we have an opportunity to play in a tournament environment, I am going to play in it so our players get the game experience in a more formal environment to get ready for Districts.

5. Wait and see if the Diocese of Covington Championship ever gets off the ground for the member high schools - most that are "A" schools.

 

This is about as far wrong as it can get. Only track, football and cross-country are classed. Not baseball. Not basketball. Not soccer. Not golf. Not swimming. Not softball. Not volleyball. I could go on, but I'm wearing out the n's, o's and t's on my keyboard.

Anyway, with regard to the All A, does the All A committee reimburse the participating schools for the rooms, meals, travel, buses, vans, ect...? I'm sure that there are some smaller A schools that may be strapped when it comes to covering such expenses. What about time away from school?

For the All "A" State tourneys, the All "A" pays for the players rooms and one meal a day, travel expenses are the schools responsibility.

Take away the out of district student/athletes, educational guardianship student/athletes and possible transfer student/athletes currently at your school,enrollment may possibly be low enough to participate in the ALL A. Then you would see the excitement and opportunity that this provides for student athletes to show their talents throughout the state.

 

I have never seen someone so worked up about a tournament that they don't / can't participate in, especially when it was stated in one of your very first comments that you were done commenting..... looks like you place a lot of thought into your posts???

I assume you guys are concerned with the "out of district part". So here it is.

 

You're right! And so could many other schools. Every school has kids in those situations. All that is true at about every school, except maybe the Boone schools that locked down their open enrollment. But that is by their choice. Every school has the same opportunity. Some schools over the years have proven to be a good destination for many kids to get to take more advantage of. Those districts have earned that reputaion. I ask you, why does HHS get all those kids? You tell me! You know that answer! I know the answer. It's not what people want to believe, but it's the truth. Why do families want their kids to go to HHS?

 

And by the way, there are so many kids at HHS now that several classes from K-12 are locked down. So they don't even take every kid. Heck, I coach there and I can't get my kid in. I know teachers that teach in the district and they can't get their kid in. So think what you want, but there is a reality to what actually goes on. Why wouldn't we take kids from out of district if they wanted to go there? Here's another reality that sports people like to overlook. We have probably 3 times the amount of kids that go to HHS for education than sports. Many kids that transfer there never touch a sports. And many go there for education and end up playing a sport. Everyone wants to talk about the stars, but there are a ton of kids that go there for education, play sports because they like it and would anywhere else and NEVER become anything else than a very average high school athlete. There are hundreds of those kids across all the sports. Are they there for sports...absolutely not. They are there for the education and just happen to play sports.

 

Here's an example. I coach softball. Out of my top ten players, we have 5 that live in Ft Thomas currently. Out of my top 10, maybe 3 would like to play in college and two of those live in Ft Thomas. So those other 4, did they come for softball or for education? And out of those 5 that live out of district, 3 of them have parents that went to HHS...which is another reason HHS has a lot of out of district kids. Many went there and want their kids to got there. But they don't live in Ft Thomas. Heck, you're talking to one right now! My kids go there and I coach there and we dont' live in Ft Thomas. And they don't play football either.

You are 100% correct. My reply was more of a statement than a question, but now since the "one day" has come and the response was given, most of what I stated was given in RCC9 own admission/response. I have so many questions to the response, but not the time to break each one down. I guess one question would be that if 50% of his team is from out of district wouldn't that be a high number and directly related to sports?? There are a lot of kids that will be from out of district, but not want to play college ball, but still transfer for sports..... so unless I did not fully understand that statement I would say that most do transfer for sports??? JMO. Also, to add to that, if the alumni want their children to attend HHS for just the education then they should do what their parents did and move to Ft. Thomas. Parents make sacrifices for their children all of the time and proper planning will allow them to attend the school of choice and live in district. Planning a child's education is not a overnight decision, many years of thought and planning go into this, so to me the out of district issue could be avoided.... again, JMO

Boy, is that what you take from all this.

 

First, who do I have that came from across the river?? Secondly, do we get kids from "across the river"? I didn't realize that if we do.

 

Third, no matter how many kids we get, we are still what we are. A school of 800-900 kids. That's it! Still not a BIG school. And again, the majority of the kids that make up that 800-900 kids did not go there to compete in sports. Check it out, you'd be surprised!

 

Lastly, please show me where "i want to compete in the All A". That couldn't be more of the opposite. I don't think we need a separate tournament, that's what I'm saying. Do you guys not understand what I'm saying? I'm saying, if we agree as a state to play these sports without classifications, why do we feel the need to break out one classification? Expecially when the teams that are dominating the level can compete with everyone else anyway. Why have a special tournament for them? That makes absolutly no sense. Either we play with no classifications or we move the state to classifications.

 

It's funny, I was talking with some people the other day that "get it". None of which have any connections to HHS. They all agreed that because it is coming from an HHS guy, that people are thinking it's all about HHS. Because they know me and what I'm trying to say, they also completly agree that it has nothing to do with HHS and that I would be saying exactly the same thing, regardless of where my kids went to school. They all said, I almost wish I wasn't at HHS so people would see the real meaning of what I'm saying. But it gets masked because they all think it's about HHS. It has nothing to do with HHS. I don't expect or care if you believe that or not.
