Just think, without classifications, Highlands might have 2 football state championships! My response to this whole thread is, WGAF?

Secondly, this isn't about Highlands. I know you all don't want to believe that, but it's the truth. Don't care if you believe it or not.

 

But since you brought up football, I should just point you to the bball A discussion. But I'll give you a summary. If they went to classes in football and we only had 2-5 (debatable) instead of 22, I'd be perfectly fine with that because whatever the number was, they would be highly respected still. Because everyone's numbers would go down. NCC, beechwood, Cov cath, and other may not have any. Not drilling those schools, just saying everyone would play by the same rules. So the "respected number" goes down. So if HHS say had 5, in your scenario, that would still be a remarkable number. Beacause you'd still be talking only 1-2 other teams in the state that would have more or even be close. Way back when, there were many years when HHS won states, they were the best team in the state that year. Don't know if they would have won an open, but they were ranked 1. My point, it wouldn't make a bit of difference to me how many they had because the wins they would have been earned and highly respected. The fact there are classes just sets the number of what is respected higher.

But....they didn't move up to the highest class, did they? Didn't give up those 3A state "cake"walks to compete with the big boys in Lou, did they? Game, set, match.

 

What???? Most years they were playing up until the state made them play in their classification. When I played, our enrollment was 2A and we always played 3a. (When there were 4 classes) Then when they went to 6 classes, HHS partitioned to play 5a at a 4a enrollment. Then the state forced them down to 4a...where they should play based on enrollment. Looks like the game is still on.

 

Most HHS would LOVE to see a super class or open class. This is the difference. It's not about the number of titles, it's about the competition and challenge. There is no doubt if they would develop a super class and the travel expenses could be worked out that HHS football would sign up. No doubt. I don't see ANYONE else in the state that EVER asked to be placed up in any class and any sport and HHS did it for years and begged not to be moved down to the level they were supposed to be playing. Please understand what you are saying before you make accusations. BAZINGA!

ND will not be invited because they are not part of the Diocese, they have different rules, like playing on Easter week.

 

Not correct at all. NDA is not governed by the Diocese but they fall under them if that makes sense. They work together. NDA is like all the other schools as they are not supposed to play on Good Friday and Easter. Holy Thursday is sometimes a bit controversial but they can play. NDA actually has talked about hosting or co-hosting such a tournament.

BTW, NewCath is get T-shirts for winning the All "A" Regional, I going to bring mine to a game and have you wear it and AllenR is going to take a picture or the 1986 NewCath Christmas Ball picture of you and my sister goes on the board........what's it going to be?

Bishop told ALL schools no playing on Holy Thrusday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday for this year. However, somehow NewCath, CovCath, & Brossart baseball teams didn't get the memo, as they are playing in a triangle today. And I'm stumped how ND is able to play on Saturday. :no:

WE had to move our All A games here in 1st region due to Holy Week.

Let us throw another log on the fire.......you know the All-A also has Academic competitions and Cheerleading competitions and Art competitions and awards scholly money out to all those students from the smallest 130 schools in the state. Oh the humanity!

All kidding aside, I do think its great what the A does around the scholarships.

 

But where is mine? My school is too big to be awarded scholarships? Does the size of the school matter when it comes to providing scholarships? Why can't we get any?
