You are 100% correct. My reply was more of a statement than a question, but now since the "one day" has come and the response was given, most of what I stated was given in RCC9 own admission/response. I have so many questions to the response, but not the time to break each one down. I guess one question would be that if 50% of his team is from out of district wouldn't that be a high number and directly related to sports?? There are a lot of kids that will be from out of district, but not want to play college ball, but still transfer for sports..... so unless I did not fully understand that statement I would say that most do transfer for sports??? JMO.

HHS is avg to above avg in every other sport, other than football. Please tell me what kids are transferring to HHS to play sports for our teams. If you were a great softball, soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball player, is HHS the first place you think about going for sports reasons? Probably not! But guess what, all those sports are filled with transfers. Transfers that are very average. They just happen to play sports. The ones you hear about equal about 1% of the kids that are transfers. You act like transfers at HHS relate to outstanding athletes. The FACT is, the majority of the transfers HHS gets as a school are not outstanding athletes. In fact, the majority are just very average kids that wanted to go to school there. It's so funny the perception that outsiders have of HHS. Heck, we have transfers on the bowling teams. We also have transfers on the teams that we aren't good at all. Why aren't you talking about those kids? Hilarious!

So perception is that athletics does play a part in this. I am not as up to date on the current athletes, but the ones from the past. My comments are regarding you original statement, not your team, just using your numbers. You have spent a lot of time and energy about the All A Classic and your thoughts against it, so you should expect some feedback both negative and positive. If those whom you speak of support your thoughts, then have them join BGP if not already a member.

I'm saying why do we feel ANYONE needs a second chance if we all agree that the state has no classifications! Why do we make up a second state tournament for just a few? Why do some kids that chose to go to a certain school and have a certain enrollment get a second chance to experience succes and all other kids that go to other schools don't. That doesn't mean I want to play in the All A! Heck, Holmes has never won anything in Softball, why don't they get a second chance? Cooper? Scott? Campbell Co? Do we not care about those kids getting a chance to experience success?

If they finish 2nd in the district they earned the right to advance according to the rules laid out by the KHSAA. If you think RCC said something different please post the exact quote where he said it.

In this case, I agree with RCC9. HHS has academic programs that are superior to some of the other options in the county, and I say that having experienced 4 separate schools in the county. True that some do come to HHS for sports, and the majority would be for football reasons, but not the majority of students out of district come to HHS for football or other sports. HHS softball as been an afterthought at the school until the past couple years (No offense RCC, you know it's true). If you were a female and wanted to transfer for a spring sport think tennis.

 

Part of the problem with Ft Thomas is the lack of available housing to support everyone moving to the city to get their kid into HHS. The numbers just don't support it.

 

Many of the transfers into the district had parents that went to HHS…not any different than NCC, BBHS, NDA, CCH, etc…. If you want to use the "move into the district" idea, then you would have to support the same for the parochial schools.

 

Each year the Ft Thomas School system evaluates the number of available spots for students to enter or remain in their system. There is no guarantee that an out of district student gets in, it's purely numbers.

 

Don't confuse an outstanding football program with ALL sports at HHS. I can assure you it does not work that way. I would encourage you to compare the academic programs at HHS to any of the county parochial schools and public schools. Not that these schools don't have great academics, but the level of investment at Ft Thomas Schools goes beyond what is offered at the others. Mostly because they are 1) Independent and have better control of funds and 2) they remain a small to mid-sized school district.

 

If the only transfers anyone looks at are football related (aka "sports"), then you will certainly be blinded by the academic opportunities available within the district. Perception can be clouded by 20 state championships, reality speaks through the facts
