March 24, 201412 yr “I think the NFL is 10 years away from an implosion,” Cuban said, via Tim McMahon of ESPNDallas.com. “I’m just telling you, pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. And they’re getting hoggy. Just watch. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. When you try to take it too far, people turn the other way. “I’m just telling you, when you’ve got a good thing and you get greedy, it always, always, always, always, always turns on you. That’s rule number one of business.” “They’re trying to take over every night of TV,” Cuban said. “Initially, it’ll be, ‘Yeah, they’re the biggest-rating thing that there is.’ OK, Thursday, that’s great, regardless of whether it impacts [the NBA] during that period when we cross over. Then if it gets Saturday, now you’re impacting colleges. Now it’s on four days a week. … Mark Cuban warns NFL ?hogs? risk eventual ?implosion? | ProFootballTalk
March 24, 201412 yr Author I am one of the biggest NFL fans on BGP and I think Cuban has a point. As much as I love the NFL I think they have to be careful not to give us too much and I think we are approaching that time. Agree? Disagree? If you were in charge of the NFL what would you do?
March 24, 201412 yr I am one of the biggest NFL fans on BGP and I think Cuban has a point. As much as I love the NFL I think they have to be careful not to give us too much and I think we are approaching that time. Agree? Disagree? If you were in charge of the NFL what would you do? I definitely agree. I personally don't watch too many games in a given year in the first place, but during football season, it's hard to ignore the NFL even if you want to. One thing I think they're going to see coming if they continue to expand the schedule is booming increase in player injuries. I began thinking that when they started Thursday night games. With the amount of physicality present at that level of the game, asking more and more players to go from a game on Sunday and then turning them around to be prepared mentally and physically to play another game four days later is just asking for it. If you as me, player injuries and the long-lasting results of those injuries is the A#1 biggest problem on the NFL's plate right now and looking into the future. Increasing the number of games and the frequency in which they are played is only going to fuel the injury fire.
March 24, 201412 yr It is all about making money. I'm sure the NFL has a really good marketing department that has determined that there is money still left on the table. They don't care about who else (other professional sports, college football, etc.) it hurts along the way. As long as there is market demand, they will keep growing their product's influence. When the market starts to dry up, they will ease back. In the meantime, I don't see NFL killing the Golden Goose. On the other hand, from a personal standpoint, I don't have to agree with what the NFL is doing.

March 24, 201412 yr The Thursday game issue is nowhere near as large a problem to me as their desire to expand the season to 18 games and the playoffs to 14 teams. That's where I think they're getting greedy, especially the 18 games. Expanded playoffs dilutes the product. Expanded seasons do the same and also increase the injury risks tenfold. I'm optimistic they'll never expand the season but they're always bringing it back up despite near constant negative feedback from everyone from players to fans.
March 24, 201412 yr If they push the Saturday thing that will be a HUGE mistake. I am sure most of America is like me, maybe not but Saturday is and always will be College football, period!!
March 24, 201412 yr If they push the Saturday thing that will be a HUGE mistake. I am sure most of America is like me' date=' maybe not but Saturday is and always will be College football, period!![/quote'] But is the NFL encroaching on Saturdays any worse then colleges playing on Fridays? Will the NFL playing on Saturdays have a measurable effect on college game attendance? I can state for a fact that colleges playing on Fridays does have an impact on High schools. And to the point of the thread I tend to agree. Sometimes more is not better. Sent from my iPhone using Forum Runner
March 24, 201412 yr Love college. Couldn't care less about the NFL except the Redskins, and that's getting old. I'll tune into see how the locals do and always pull for them to do well, Cincy...Indy...Tennessee; but, as far as watching it intently..well, I don't. The NFL is about like College Basketball for me...the last couple weeks of the regular season and post season; that's about all I watch.
March 24, 201412 yr The NBA season goes from October to June and Cuban is implying the NFL is over exposed??? Maybe Cuban has not noticed, but the entire NBA Eastern Conference regular season schedule is irrelevant and unnecessary!

March 24, 201412 yr As long as people are playing fantasy football at a high rate, I'm not sure there is such thing as too fat for the NFL.
March 25, 201412 yr I love the NFL but part of the romance is the small doses. If it's on every night of the week it starts to lose it's luster.
March 25, 201412 yr I agree 100% absolutely, positively with Cuban!! I love football and the NFL; but when you begin to want to extend the season, put more games in London, and play games on another night to get more games on TV. You are getting greedy like Cuban said. My sentence for this situation is a very common cliché. If it isn't broke, don't fix it!
