The big kid for Clay Co was a load. Love the Farmer kid's game, especially that baseline pull-up. He has a really nice touch.

 

Amazing shooting performance by CovCath, in a big and intimidating building, in every kids' first appearance there. Really impressive.

How about the gentleman who bought all the pizza for the Cov Cath student section? I am guessing he bought 50 of them. And I was told he is the owner of Jack Ruby Steakhouse? And it was during the time that they were eating Clay County took the lead in second quarter.y

Congrats to the Colonels. Outside of some silly 1st half turnovers the Colonels showed a ton of maturity making 2nd half adjustments. They were stroking the 3 ball all Night. CVH is a tough Kid who came alive in the 2nd half asserting himself more. Ruthsatz just gets it done, he has streetball moves and leads this Team like a SR should.

 

Farmer has a great shot and also passes well. McDaniel was really good tonight, Kid has a bright future.

 

McDaniel was a kid that Clay Co was lucky to have this year. He's got a golf scholly to UK to play with his brother. He's gonna graduate early to join him. He was going to go to a golf academy this year but decided against it after awhile, and if guess a run to Rupp might have factored into that.

Really pleased with Clay County's performance tonight. They are scrappy and I think they had something to do with Cov Cath's "bad performance". Not many gave them much of a chance, but I had a really good feeling about them opening some eyes.

 

Farmer and Allen played well and our wings got penetration and were unselfish in dumping off to the bigs when they did. Chip had a great game as well and did a good job of finding his shot while still keeping the entire offense in rhythm. Trey Farmer, Blake Smith, and Wes Wolfe are all Sophomores. Farmer didn't play as a freshman and wasn't in the best shape this year for awhile, but that should change next year. Ryan House, the 6th man, is a freshman.

 

Next year, they'll lose Allen and McDaniel, which are obviously huge cogs, but they have a nice core too.

Going forward, I think Cov Cath is susceptible to a team who can drive and dump off to their bigs for finishes. I can see Bowling Green matching up with them really, really well.

CovCath survived a 21-2 run tonight. They were up 31-21 at the 4:45 mark of the 2nd quarter and then outscored 19-2 to halftime, trailing 40-33 at intermission. Clay scored the first bucket of the second half to make it a 21-2 run, from which the Colonels rallied to tie the game at 44-44 with 3:43 in the 3rd quarer on a pair of Von Handorf buckets.

 

Not the Colonels' best effort but a survive and advance game and a trip over the track game nonetheless. Clay was gritty. Farmer has nice touch. Their big/s caused CovCath problems inside. Ruthsatz was very much the Player of the Game, without him CVH doesn't get 18. Great effort by the freshman. Ben Heppler hit key shots and finished with 16.

 

Bardstown is fundamentally sound and well-coached. Hope for an easy one, BUT don't expect it.

With Clay County down by 3 with around 15 or 20 seconds remaining it appeared to me that the Clay player was fouled from behind and hit the floor with the ball being knocked out of bounds. But the official just called the ball out on CovCath. Then Clay inbounded the ball and was fouled again but it was once more whistled knocked out by CovCath. Then the last shot attempt was slapped down by the defender and stolen and that was pretty much the last chance for the Tigers. The last defensive play was probably a clean play, but the other two should have been called fouls IMO, especially the first one where the Clay player was bowled over from behind. I thought it was a well called game for the most part but whistles were swallowed at the end of the game at a crucial time.

Yeah, I was surprised by that call. It didn't look like any contact was made (as I watched from behind my keyboard ).

Esp the second one when the clay player wrapped both arms around Mark.

 

One question if I was a Clay County fan I would have of the coach, is why in the last couple of minutes trailing by three, did he take Farmer out of the game? Did not appear to be winded or hurt to me, but he took him out for a bit which helped the Colonels IMO

Fun game to watch. Thought CovCath might run away with it there in the 2nd quarter when they went up 31-21 but Clay County responded with that huge run. But CCH played with much more composure in the 2nd half and hit a bunch of big shots. Ruthsatz played really well, but I thought CVH was outstanding on both ends in clutch situations.

 

McDaniel, Farmer, and Allen all were solid for Clay County, who was much better than I expected they'd be.
