How about the gentleman who bought all the pizza for the Cov Cath student section? I am guessing he bought 50 of them. And I was told he is the owner of Jack Ruby Steakhouse? And it was during the time that they were eating Clay County took the lead in second quarter.y

One question if I was a Clay County fan I would have of the coach, is why in the last couple of minutes trailing by three, did he take Farmer out of the game? Did not appear to be winded or hurt to me, but he took him out for a bit which helped the Colonels

If Covington Catholic's uber-enthusiastic, blue-shirted student fans were ever worried about the Colonels during Thursday night's game against Clay County, they sure didn't show it.

 

But CovCath Coach Scott Ruthsatz had a few anxious moments before his team eked out an 80-78 win in the first round of the 97th Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet Sixteen in Rupp Arena.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Covington Catholic came out red hot to start the game and finished strong, and that allowed the Colonels to overcome a battling Clay County team 80-78 in the final first-round game of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet 16 boys’ basketball tournament Thursday night at Rupp Arena.

 

“Covington Catholic hit 12 of 18 3-point shots and that was too much for us to overcome,” Clay County coach Robert Marcum said. “We executed our game plan pretty well, but we didn’t expect them to shoot the ball that well.”

LEXINGTON – Covington Catholic didn't play many close games this season, but the ones it did play it usually found a way to win, which is exactly what it did on Thursday night.

 

After leading by as many as 11 points in the first half, then trailing by as much as nine in the second half, CovCath showed the toughness it embodied all season to rally past Clay County in the first round of the Boys' Sweet 16 State Tournament for an 80-78 victory in Rupp Arena.

Taking nothing away from Ruby as that was certainly a nice gesture on his part, but his total bill would probably equate to a table of 6 to 8 diners enjoying a steak dinner and a glass of wine in one of his restaurants in one given evening.
