NKY Preseason Coaches Poll

Left the game after 6 as a freshmen beating Ryle 5-2 to get no decision. Left game with a lead his sophomore year no hitting Conner and up 2-0 after 4 to get no decision. Actually he beat CCH and shut them down his Junior year. Left game after 4 against Highlands with a 3-0 lead only to get another no decision. Conner and Highlands were both early in the year and was on a low pitch count. His last 2 games, Campbell and CCH were he ran into trouble was in the 2nd inning of both games. He has been gutting through a little injury the last 2 outings and has yet to get were he was against Highlands. He by no means is perfect and will have bad games. But, hopefully this will give you a little background and hopefully people under estimate him so Cooper can get to the Regionals this year. Not sour grapes, just felt a little history, no pun attended, would good regarding your comment.

I have asked this question before having seen Dunn pitch several times, and also I realize baseball is a team sport, but who is good that he has beaten in his career? The young man has talent-don't get me wrong as evidenced by the fact that he will play at the next level, but again which good team has he beaten? Cooper has yet to play in the region since he has been there, and this is his last shot.

No need to be defensive...if he is an ace, then he will win a district game, and lead the Jags to the regional tournament. I hope he does.

I have seen Dunn pitch a couple times the past few years. The last time I saw him pitch was when Bluegrass played Midland and he didn't get out of the first inning. He definately throws hard but the times I have seen him he has had control issues..

That was his probably yesterday. He couldn't control his breaking pitches and CCH sat dead red.

Yes. Struggled.

You commented who he had beat and I gave you some history. Just trying to answer your question. If you didn't want answers to your question I wouldn't have answered. It was a question correct? Yes! That's what I thought!

Struggled for sure. Velocity was down along with off speed pitch command. Overall very rough outing.

Is locking down the Birds a good measurement on how a pitcher will do against top teams? If so, I like Boone's chances of going deep this season. Everyone knows about Boone's Ganns, but Boone played the Birds early and let Soph Purnell only go 3 innings and he was making it look easy. 12 batters, 7 k's. I think Boone's Ganns, Purnell, & Huff could give them enough to make a good run.

But I agree with Big Cat, You can't just base it on who has the top 3 or 4 starters, it takes a little defense and offense. I do think the Birds are getting a early edge getting in some good games down in SC while everyone else is taking grounders in the parking lot or gym.

Boone could very well have a deep run with those three, plus Meyerhoff's JV squad has a couple arms that could provide very good depth to staff led by Ganns,Purnell and Huff. Kenton Hibbard (So.) and Ryan Vickers (Fr.) have been very impressive in their outings v Highlands and Ryle.

I don't think anyone would have been moaning if Dunn transferred to their school in December. Does he strike everyone out and always on top of his game? No, but he is the most projectable pitcher in the area. Are there some pitchers out there throwing 75mph undefeated? Sure, but at age 25 Dunn along with Ganns have the best chance at a career on the mound. Its a long hard road. No one knows the work those boys put in. I wish all NKY players success. I have yet to hear at a MLB game a pitcher's high school record anounced.

I have seen Dunn pitch for years. Since he was in grade school and I have yet to see anyone in the area with as good of stuff as Dunn has when he is on.

One of the problems he has to deal with though is since his time at Cooper there really hasn't been a pitching coach that truly knows how to handle the pitchers. I've yet to see them in his 4 years there actually throw any bullpen on off days unless they do it on their own after practice etc. The only times the pitchers get to throw any is when they get called to the mound in a game. So basically, even in this weather with all the cancellations so far, you can have a pitcher pitch 1 day in a game and not pitch from a mound in any type of bullpen session or simulated game for over a week. A pitcher cant go a week plus between throwing. It's just like hitters, it's very tough to stay in any kind of rhythm when you only get to bat once every 5 days. Some hitters need to get in a rhythm and have a routine, same for pitchers. That is why I always felt long toss should be a big part of a pitchers regime during the week.

When Dunn is on he is the best I've seen, but when he doesn't get work in he can struggle just like anyone can. He will be just fine and he'd still be my #1 pick out of any pitcher in the region.

No surprise here!!!

Saw CCH on Saturday. Looks like they can put the bat on the ball.
