St Xavier had a higher rating then SK. So in some cases it does mean something.

It certainly seems to me you hope they do not bring it home. UK#1 fan posted earlier this season SK might be the best team in Northern Kentucky. You laughed out loud then also. Maybe Hazard did lose in the all a tourney. They may have just had a bad day, but to call state tourney teams mediocre makes me think you and Beech Bum are still upset about the first round debacle by Beechwood in the 9th region tourney.

 

Why are you bringing me into this? BW played an awful game in the tourney. I said so many times. It's baseball. Nothing to be upset about other than people like you throwing poster's names around for no reason.

Totally agree! Stringer and Bright boys should have stayed at SK!

I thought the same thing. And IMO, Ratings are nothing more than fodder for discussion on boards such as this one. We have all seen several teams knock each other off when we did not think it was possible. That's the beauty of baseball. it is so unpredictable.

I would also add that it is the downfall of any 1 and out tourney (regardless of sport). More often than not, the winner is not the best team in the field. The only way to crown a true champion would be a multi game series tourney, like the NBA or MLB does. This is obviously impossible in high school or even college sports.

 

I was rooting for SK to win it all and congratulate them on their finish but they would probably fall somewhere in the 6-10 spot in my Top 10 NKy team poll. Saying they are the best team in NKY would be similar to thinking that UConn was the best men's college basketball team this past season.

Simon Kenton CLEARLY was the best team playing out of Northern Kentucky by the end of the year. Conner and Scott would be next. That is why the district, region and state tournaments are played. You can say your team is the best all day long, but the tournaments are where you have to prove it.

 

To me, you are being a bit hypocritical in your statements here vs. the Northern Kentucky All Star Teams thread. There you think King from Dixie should be on the team, and I agree-why?because his play backed it up.

You make a valid point but I would question whether SK would have advanced beyond the 9th region. If SK played all of those teams and beat them then I would call them the best in NKY. As bad as BW played in the 9th they still run ruled Hazard in the All "A". Is BW better than Hazard? That day they were. BW beat Highlands and then was run ruled by them in the tourney. Who is better? It is an almost impossible question to answer because of the nature of the game. SK got hot in the end and were the best in the region on those days they played. Same for their half of the state bracket. if NKY had a playoff where everyone had to play each other then I could call someone the "best in NKY". SK was the best on the days that they had to be and congrats for a nice run in the end. But like Old Bulldog, I cannot call SK the best team in NKY.

The 9th region was really loaded this year... No doubt. Some very good teams and good players didn't even make it to regionals. Conner really had to run through the gauntlet this year. I'm interested to see which NKY teams get hot at the right time next year. Conner was more than solid all season though, just fell short in the end.

If a certain SK poster would be questioning the validity of either the Beechwood Tigers or Dixie Heights Colonels had they made the state baseball finals as to whether or not they were really the best in Northern Kentucky, you would be outraged and rightfully so.

 

Give credit where credit is due and that is to Simon Kenton in 2014. I think you will find it better to be a gracious loser and a humble winner as good things happen in the future for both of your ball clubs. Let the Pioneers enjoy their moment in the sun. Be happy for them. They deserve it. Then when the good times roll for your team hopefully the folks in Independence will celebrate your good fortune.

I am happy for SK. We have a lot of family friends there as we do at Highlands and St. Henry. This may surprise you but if Beechwood had their best player and ran the table to state then I would still question whether they were a better team than Conner who beat us twice. Boone might be the best team with Gans on the mound but hardly if he is not. It is just my opinion of HS baseball since these teams do not all play each other. Hey, I was checking the SK scores all the way through and I am sorry they fell short. Their run in the playoffs is as valid as it gets.

I can see where my view might come across as cheapening what SK accomplished. Not my intention at all and my apologies to all that saw it that way. In performing empirical research I am wired to have all of the evidence possible. Sometimes this acumen gets in my way as a baseball fan.

Texas high school playoffs used to be best 2 of 3, with a Friday night game followed by a DH on Saturday if necessary. While it would be difficult to schedule, it would not be impossible.
