NKY Preseason Coaches Poll

Featured Replies

It certainly seems to me you hope they do not bring it home. UK#1 fan posted earlier this season SK might be the best team in Northern Kentucky. You laughed out loud then also. Maybe Hazard did lose in the all a tourney. They may have just had a bad day, but to call state tourney teams mediocre makes me think you and Beech Bum are still upset about the first round debacle by Beechwood in the 9th region tourney.

You are right. It has everything to do with Beechwood, and nothing to do with the facts. Nothing to do with the fact they went-per MaxPreps- 1-6 in the regular season vs Dixie, Highlands, Ryle, CovCath, Cooper, and Conner. They didn't play Beechwood or Boone, or they most likely would have been 1-8. It has nothing to do with the fact they were a .500 team for much of the season. Any one of the teams listed could have easily made the run SK made, because they were the best teams in Northern KY, which is what this thread was based on. If you want to start a thread about best teams in the 8th region, wherever that is, go for it. There is a reason Major League Baseball and college baseball play series at the end of the season, to determine the best team, not just the team that had the best matchup or best draw. SK needs to petition the state to get back into the 9th region, trade spots with Bellvue or St. Henry and let them go play that type of competition.

Really? Cheap shot at best. SK did what they needed to do to get where they got. So do all the other schools like Bellevue and St. Henry. And you don't "petition" to get into a region, you are assigned there by the KHSAA. Maybe we should send Ryle to a Louisville Region or perhaps maybe Dixie to the Lexington Region. Sheesh.

Beech bum and History: King did indeed make the All-Star team. In fact he pitched in the All-Star game last night and looked really sharp. BTW, all the young men from the All-Star game had a blast. It was really fun to watch these boys have some fun. I even saw Rogers from St Henry with some of the boys from Conner try to do the hidden ball trick. All for fun of course. The boys couldn't stop grinning / smiling, so of course it didn't work. Great bunch of young men that have the highest respect for their follow players / competitors!! Congrats again to SK, Conner and Scott for a great run for NKY!!

Look, it's pretty clear that a big reason why SK and Scott made the dance was their region (although Scott did have to get through Harrison and Bourbon county). But SK didn't choose to be in the 8th region, and they did everything they were asks to do in the format they were asks to do it. They won their region and went on a nice run, and gave the eventual state champs 6 innings of very good baseball, and gave themselves a chance to win the state title. There's no doubt the 9th region is tough, and their are probably 4 or 5 teams that could have made the same run SK did. But like it or, at the end of the year, SK's record was very respectable, and deserve consideration to be in the conversation as one of the better teams in NKY this year. They will be hanging a regional championship and state runner up banner, which no other team in NKY can do lay claim to this year. Knock their region if you want, but even the mighty 9th region rarely makes the finals (Beechwood 2006, Cov Cath, 2002)....only two teams in over 30 years.

Thank you for addressing me personally but I have no idea why. I have never chimed in on the all-star team or who made the roster. I wish I could have got to the game last night though. Sounds like it was a good time. Best of luck to all of the seniors no matter where their paths lead from here.

Lol. Good for SK, but lets not get crazy. Theyve pkayed a very good tourney vs mediocre comp. Hazard couldnt even make it out of first round of all a finals. I hope they bring it home.

To be fair, who cares about the All A tourney?

Again this year showed it really doesn't mean anything and far from the team that wins it from being one of the states best.

NKY has a bunch of teams that are among the best in the state imo and yes the 9th region is hands down the toughest region in the state imo. But lets not diminish the fun run SK had to get to the championship game. Beechwood, Conner or any other team in the 9th couldn't make the run so why talk down about SK's run? Beecwhood didn't get there, they didn't even make it out of regionals yet they were all excited about winning the All A tourney which got them what? nothing. So just like last year, the polls were pretty much overrated according to the predictions made pre season about "How great" BW were supposed to be.

SK made it to the finals, no one else from NKY did. Yes the 8th is not the toughest regions in the area but they can only play the games in front of them. Shoot, Cooper run ruled SK but does that mean Cooper should of made it to the state championship game? No, because they didn't win when they needed to.

So I say Congrats SK on a great run and to the seniors I wish you all the best. Don't ever let anyone try and take anything away from your accomplishments this year, if the other teams were so great then they shouldn't have lost.

There are a lot of people who care about the All "A". You just do not happen to be one of them. There were a lot very good teams this year in NKY and not everyone can win it all. In celebrating the great run by SK let's not diminish the fine seasons of many other teams. The debate here is who was the best in NKY? How can that really be answered unless they all play each other. Who was the best in NKY in getting out of their respective region and disposing of the competition along the way to the state final? SK was without question and kudos to them. They represented the 859 well. Man, I am starting to sound like my kids.

The All A tourney doesn't show who is one of the best teams not only in the state but even in the area where the champ comes out of.

The best teams in NKY this year were imo (in no particular order) Dixie, Cov Cath, SK, Conner and HHS

Sounds like we need an end of season BGP poll.

That was not my point. My point was that there are a lot of people that care about the All "A". If no one did then they would not hold it. I agree with your last sentence. You named several best teams. That is what makes it hard for me to say any one team is the best in NKY.

This we agree with. NKY was very strong this year.

Sure was, exciting season!

A lot of young talent returning next year. You do you like?

BIRDS. They loose 1 starter at 2nd, and 1 starting pitcher, but get 2 quality arms from JV, 1 who threw a no hitter is first start at varsity. Pitching will be one of the best in the state, (Jones, Martin, Bunning, Raisor, Kreeger), B-wood will be strong, but I will take the Dirty Birds.

Chief, Bwood beat Hazard 11-1, against their best pitcher. SK beat Hazard 1-0, against their second best pitcher. The All "A" is nothing?
