OK it's that time of year. Every basketball show, every retrospective and at least one commercial is sure to show "The Play" by Duke and Christian Laettner that to this day grates on every Cat Fans nerves. As soon as it starts showing up on TV over the next few weeks there will be Facebook and Twitter Post about how tired we are of seeing that shot and some will even say there is an NCAA Conspiracy against UK...

 

Here are 5 Reasons to LET IT GO!!!

 

1. It is a highlight from what may be the Greatest College Basketball game ever played and UK was a Part of it.

2. UK wasn't given a chance coming into that game, we should be celebrating that it took a miracle finish by Duke to beat UK that season.

3. This wasn't for the title no matter how much everyone likes to project forward, who knows how it ends up, it was just the regional finals.

4. Could be worse, we could be Houston. I'd much rather be a UK fan having to see repeated replays of a great play to beat us in a game we never should have been in, than to be Houston fans and have to watch the same amount of replays of an AIR BALL beat you when you should have won the CHAMPIONSHIP Game by 15 points.

5. It's not a conspiracy, it's not shown over and over just to tick UK fans off. It IS one of the most historic games in NCAA History. Embrace it and accept that UK played Great in the Greatest Game ever and came up 2.1 seconds short. (Yes Laettner should have been thrown out of the game earlier but that has nothing to do with the replay)

 

ONE UK FAN TO THE REST...LET IT GO!!!

I'll also add that anyone who watched the 30 for 30 on the Big East tonight knows that Laettner shouldn't have been ejected based on all that players were allowed to get away with back then.

 

They beat the hell out of each other.

Anyone see the guy on tv today at the SEC championship wearing the I still Hate Laettner shirt haha? My dislike of Duke is not because of Laettner but more along the lines of back when I was in high school in the late 90's early 2000's anyone who didn't like UK cheered for Duke out of spite, and that really rubbed me the wrong way because I really hate those kinds of fans.

It's the best college basketball game I have ever seen & probably the most clutch individual performance I have ever seen.

 

It certainly broke my heart when it happened & stuck with me for years. But I'm long past it & appreciate it for what it is. When I think of college basketball games, I think of that one first & foremost.
