Could Tennessee Basketball pull a Petrino?

I'm a UK fan and all, but come on Jumper, you don't really buy the bolded do you?

You think Cal set up payments from an agent to Camby? Was he part of a cover up?

You think Cal set up someone else to take the ACT in Chicago for Rose? Did he play Rose when NCAA hadn't yet cleared him?

You Think Memphis should have been penalized for playing a player that the NCAA cleared?

You don't THINK that if the NCAA could have Pinned this on Cal they would have, instead officially clearing him.

Rose didn't take the flagged test it Chicago. He took it in Detroit. Home of.......

Just because they couldn't pin anything on him, doesn't mean he wasn't involved.

I can somewhat buy the ignorance defense on the Rose situation, but even that seems a bit naïve to me. And yes, when the NCAA cleared him, that should've been the end of that IMO.

As far as the Camby situation goes, no I don't think Cal set up payments for him. However, I think anyone who believes Cal didn't know about it or have a strong inclination that something was going on, is incredibly naïve and would probably be interested in my ocean front property in Arizona I've been trying to sell.

You could be right, but Camby pretty much spilled his guts on that deal and he says point blank that Cal didn't know.

But whatever, I still wouldn't want Bruce Pearl to be the Coach at UK

World Wide Wes. The fake test was a rather elaborate plan that wouldn't have worked in Chicago where everyone knew Rose, so the poor inner city family just happened upon Bulls/Piston playoff tickets in Detroit the weekend of the test. I'm sure it's all just coincidence...

OK, I figured that's who you were talking about but his home town is in Jersey so I wasn't sure if you were talking about him...didn't realize he lived in Michigan

It would seem hard to believe that Cal didn't know or at least have suspicions regarding the Rose test, however, I could very easily believe that he had no knowledge of Camby taking money from an agent. I'd bet that a lot of athletes take inappropriate benefits, money or other goods, and I'd bet it is a pretty widespread happening. Heck, I know that UE basketball players were getting free meals at a restaurant I worked at while in college. If players at one of the worst programs in the MVC are getting free stuff, than you have to figure it is rampant elsewhere.

At the time he was based out of Detroit...

I'd be curious as to what happened. As a KWC fan, I never liked the guy while he was at USI, but it is hard to ignore the wins. The USI / KWC games were wars. He may have lost more often than not to KWC but those games were often close battles, where both teams left everything on the court.

Mainly a convicts running the prison type atmosphere. Also cover ups of issues with players...grades, drinking, drugs, other violations. Always got a pass because of the wins. Most say that the culture that ultimately lead to the probation a few years ago all started under Pearl's leadership.

Again this is all hearsay so take it for what it is. However you hear the same thing enough times and it makes you wonder.

Did you want Cal when Gillispie was hired? Honest question.

I wanted him or Donovan. And I wanted him or Donovan or Izzo when BCG was fired.

If Cal left tomorrow, my list of desired coaches would be in this order:

1) Billy Donovan

2) Sean Miller

3) Bruce Pearl

4) Thad Matta

If all 4 turn it down, you go to Gregg Marshall or Shaka Smart.

My like is mainly for your first sentence. I'd love to have your top 2 whenever Calipari moves on. But I will be sad that day.

What about little Ricky? He should be a real hot commodity by then. :sssh::clap::popcorn:

Billy Donovan isn't coming to Kentucky. Has zero interest in it. Doubt Miller would leave Arizona either. Pearl would definitely take it IMO, and I wouldn't touch Matta with a 100 foot pole.

I think Kentucky would contact (no particular order):

Shaka Smart

Sean Miller

Bruce Pearl

Travis Ford (would seriously consider rooting for a different program if he were coach)

Tom Izzo

Steve Alford

Thad Matta

John Beilien
