He is a good coach and good motivator, BUT he not someone I think I'd ever want at UK. UK would have to be scraping the bottom of the barrel pretty hard IMO to come up with Pearl as a successor to Cal.

I meet him at a golf outing this summer and I can confirm that he is a blast to be around.

At least Calipari didn't come with any baggage and has always run a clean ship......aside from the vacated final fours at two programs.

February 26, 201412 yr I don't think I would have a problem with Bruce Pearl at UK. Dude is 462-145 as a head coach. Winning 76.1% of your games ain't bad. I know most people don't closely follow D2 basketball, but he had some incredible teams at USI. His biggest issue there was that he just couldn't get past KWC. Ray Harper owned Pearl with an 11-2 head to head record. KWC appeared in six straight NCAA title games, I'd argue that USI would have taken there place many of those years, if they didn't have to face each other in the regionals.

Pearl lied, tried to cover up, and asked others to cover up for him. My only point is that a lot of good coaches have some baggage tied to them, which is quickly forgotten as long as they win.

The stuff at UT is just more evidence of why I wouldn't touch him. I'd be curious as to what happened. As a KWC fan, I never liked the guy while he was at USI, but it is hard to ignore the wins. The USI / KWC games were wars. He may have lost more often than not to KWC but those games were often close battles, where both teams left everything on the court.
