Good. Because Cordia's main issue is that they've had excessive numbers of transfers, but others have done likewise over the past decade, just not as many. It happens all over the state imo. Transfers from one county to the next, from other states, sometimes foreign countries, and the worst of all---the open enrollment policy permitted in some of the metropolitan areas.

Just don't key on little Cordia. Some of the big dogs have also enhanced their programs over the years with shady transfer schemes, which there's probably reason to believe Cordia has done, too.

Investigate all of them.

I do think Cordia came into the spotlight partial because of the number of transfers but I don't think it helped when Rhodes said they wanted to be a Prep school helped. I could be wrong.

Totally 100% agree and have been saying that for months now, but most of the Cordia supporters don't want to hear any of that.

“On Friday, Feb. 21 an unsporting act took place in a boys’ basketball game between Cordia and Perry County Central. The officials assigned to the game ejected one student-athlete from Cordia who was directly involved in the incident and two student-athletes from Perry County Central for leaving the bench area. While video of the incident is available online, KHSAA Board of Control Policies state that the KHSAA staff is limited in the manner in which the video is used during the disciplinary process, unless the contest officials make a request for review of the specific incident. In this instance, the contest officials made no such request and therefore the KHSAA is not permitted to act upon video evidence, and must abide by the minimum required penalty of a two-game suspension for the Cordia player and a one-game suspension for each player from Perry County Central. Administration from Cordia has reported to the KHSAA that additional actions will be taken at the school level, as they do not condone the actions of the young man in question.”

So the talk of a Death Penalty must have been just that, talk. Unless the KHSAA did something today that I'm not aware of. I know from my experience with this story that most the people I called in the southern part of our region seemed to "know" that the hammer was coming down on the Lions. I'm going to have to outsource my sources, lol.

For my part I'm glad the KHSAA hasn't taken such drastic measures, not yet anyway.

I don't recall ever hearing of the school until last year....but maybe that's just me. What is the school's enrollment? Does the school field a football team and other teams?

Cordia is the name of the school, but the community is Lotts Creek. It is between Hazard (Perry County) and Hindman (Knott County) and is an area, that, when the school was built, was seen as one that would serve that community due to it's relative isolation. The school is located in Knott County, although they have a Hazard mailing address, which probably leads to some of the confusion on where they are located. I'm not sure when Knott County Central was consolidated from all of the schools that make it up, but think that Perry County Central is relatively new (as in it was only formed in the 90's), so there were lots of smaller community schools like that in the area at one time. Founded in 1933. Not sure of the enrollment, but very small. Maybe 100 kids max if I were guessing. No football team. Hope that helps. Do not get me wrong,,I am not siding with cordia, but did Johnson wear his WKU shirt during pregame warm ups. I do not care where he is playing next year. I feel that is very low class that he is permitted to do that. YES I have seen him do it.....

Sure did. I remember it well. They won the region something like 3 straight years after old Knott County High, Hindman, and Carr Creek consolidated. Hindman had a young man by the name of Herbie Stamper and he could flat out play. He went on to star at Morehead State.

Carr Creek and Hindman had both won state championships, Hindman in the 1940's and Carr Creek in 1956.

Not sure of the enrollment, but very small. Maybe 100 kids max if I were guessing.

 

According to the "KHSAA Audited School Enrollments" (see: http://khsaa.org/reports/enrollments/20132014schoolenrollmenttotalsbyalpha.pdf) Cordia had exactly 100 students in their top four grades this season. The two school years previous to that they averaged 98 students.
