I understand what you're saying. But on the flip side, I know plenty of kids who KNOW the teacher can't do anything to them, so there's nothing to stop them from being as rude or obnoxious as they want.

 

For some kids (like the one JD mentioned) no amount of paddling is going to change their behavior. But, for others, I think the threat of that possibility, might rein a few in, knowing that there might be consequences.

Taking things away, "timeouts", etc.....All worked for my parents, see no reason they wouldn't work for everyone else too.

 

I wasn't beaten by any means, not even close... But when I got out of line there were no timeouts, nothing taken away (most times), but a nice whippin' with a belt or paddle. My mom HATED doing it, I even knew that back then, but she did it when I deserved it. Worked out well for her (and me).

Really depends on the kid. In most cases, I totally agree, but not always.

Let me tell you, a Catholic school in the 60s and 70s was no picnic if you got out of line. I had a can opened up on me quite often and it wasn't a can of worms. :lol2:
