My mom made stuffed peppers yesterday. Mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, green beans. So good I hadn't had stuffed peppers forever.

I know some people are weird about their BBQ sauce in that they feel like it has to be super-tomato-ey. But I've always had good success when I've done up mustard-based BBQ sauces. Never had a chance to try the real thing from Carolina; just my own interpretation of it.

Here's what I do:

-1 1/2 cups prepared yellow mustard

-1/2 cup packed brown sugar

-1/2 cup cider vinegar

-1/4 white vinegar

-3/4 cup beer

-1 tablespoon chili powder

-1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

-1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper

-1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

-1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

-2 tablespoons butter

-1 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring

-1 teaspoon Louisiana-style hot sauce, or to taste

Directions

1. Because you're using vinegar you want to use some sort of coated or non reactive sauce pan.

2. In your sauce pan, stir together the mustard, brown sugar, vinegar, and beer. Season with chili powder and black, white, and cayenne peppers. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, and cook for about 20 minutes. Don't let it boil, just a nice simmer.

3. Mix in the Worcestershire sauce, butter, and liquid smoke. Simmer for another 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Add the hot sauce. First time around I usually recommend 1/2 teaspoon, but if you know you like it hotter do the full teaspoon. It's hard to do it to taste when you're making it because the vinegar is a little over whelming till it sits over night. After that you can add more or less the second time around.

5. Pour into an mason jar, seal tight, and refrigerate for overnight to allow flavors to blend. I like to have it in the fridge for a minimum of 12 hours.

On a side note - Hunter's Grill on the corner of 151 and 127 between Lawrenceburg and Frankfort has a pretty solid mustard BBQ. Not sure how far that is from you.

Roast beef sandwiches with fries from St Peter & Paul Basketball Tournament….I love that place, every year I head to the hill for the food and fellowship. Even brought some home for Mrs. B

Was in New York this weekend, so I pigged out.

Went to Carbone's on Friday night for Bolonese Lasagna and had some tiramasu for dessert.

Some hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, not much bigger then my kitchen, for one of if not the best roasted pork and noodles ever Saturday for lunch.

Saturday night - Don Antonio's for the Porta A Porta, had a cannoli for dessert.

Sunday brunch at Molly Wee for the Irish breakfast buffet.

Freezer is full for the snow apocolypse.

Thawing 2 pounds of grd beef---one for tacos and one for sloppy joes.

Nothing glamorous or exciting but the kids eat non stop on snow days. :lol2:

Making stuffed peppers tonight for dinner.

Our first attempt at them, so I'm hoping they turn out well. Recipe sounds and looks delicious.

Since we are snowed in for lunch I fixed potato soup and grilled turkey and cheese sandwiches. Nothing like a big bowl of homemade soup on a cold snowy day.

Love me some sloppy joes.

Friday, grilled thin sliced chicken breast and veggies.

Saturday, Ultimate Skillet at the Village Inn. No toast. Fruit cup instead. First potatoes I've eaten in a month, I think.

Sunday, Delmonico steak, salad, broccoli, and sauteed spinach.

Tonight we'll have tacos without the taco shells, basically taco salad without the chips.

Tacos at my house probably; that or I have some of the pepperocini roast left over.

Can't count this as dinner, but had brunch at Highland Morning on Bardstown Road today. 3.5 stars out of 4. Baja Benedict for me, Lemon lovers pancakes for the Mrs. and veggie omelet for the avatar. Good solid cuppa joe. I'll be back.

I have had Highland Morning once before and got the Lemon lovers pancakes. They were beyond delicious. My mouth waters thinking about them.

Dried lima beans and ham, slow-cooked. Leftover pork roast, greens and crescent rolls.

Being snowed in forced us to cook tonight. I made baked chicken breast in a little Italian dressing and soy sauce. Cut them up over noodles and jalapeño cheese potatoes. Ms. Slick made dumplings. Not often when we are home with her kids and no card games or ball games or practices to go to.
