January 15, 201412 yr Just registered for the CrossFit Games Open. My goal is to not be last at my gym so guess we'll see.
January 16, 201412 yr Author Had a very good workout day. Hit the weights and rode the bike at the gym and capped the night off with a insanity workout. January 16, 201412 yr Figured I'd share with the rest of the crew on here. I had to get a physical for my new job last week. The physical included having blood work done. I was mildly surprised when I got my results back today. I really didn't expect to sense it was strictly a work requirement. Anyways I looked through the results including the packet that came with it explaining the results. It seems as though my working out and eating better is paying off. I'd never had blood work done so I really didn't know what to expect but of the more than a dozen different levels that were tested every single one came back as being in the optimal range. I know that I should've expected as much but I also have a cousin that's 2 years younger than me that was just diagnosed with diabetes last week so I was actually rather pleased with the results.
January 16, 201412 yr Been to the gym two days in a row... I'm sore as all get out, and kind of want to take today off. I'm afraid, though, that if I don't go it'll be tougher for me to go back... I'll probably end up just going and doing the bike for a while.
January 16, 201412 yr Author The game plan is workout at gym, ride bike, at gym. I then will go home and do another cardio workout. My plan on posting is to post my six days I workout and my food diary from myfitnesspal and the weight it says I should way in five weeks, for five weeks. Just to see how far apart the numbers really are, as far as the weight goes. So bare with me on all of the posting. I might throw in a Friday post, if I make it to the gym even though that is my only day off.
January 16, 201412 yr A question about My Fitness Pal... I'm using it and just wonder how accurate everybody feels that it is in terms of how many calories you are "allowed" each day to reach your goal. I put in my current weight, goal weight, and how many pounds I wanted to lose a week (I chose two pounds). It says I'm allowed 2750 calories a day. Me and the girlfriend got into it last night because she doesn't think that's accurate for whatever reason. She is 5'3" 115 pounds and thinks I should be eating the same amounts she is, and I respectfully disagree. :lol2: Thoughts?
January 16, 201412 yr Author I have used it off and on for a long while, and the numbers they give me and the weight it says I will weigh in five weeks, are not close. I went five weeks ate under my calorie allotment and the pounds I lost was about half of what they said. I was working out five days a week 2 hours a day during this time.

That's what I was afraid of... I guess it's a good tool to help you keep track of what you eat, but not necessarily how fast you will lose that weight.
January 16, 201412 yr Deuce I'm a big fan of MyFitnessPal and I firmly believe that I'm going to see great success while using it. However, it all depends on how you use it. If it tells you that you can eat 2750 a day, I'd really focus on maybe trying to be under that by 300-400, but I'm not an expert, but that's how I use mine. And I never pay attention to the weight it says I should weigh in five weeks. I could be wrong but I think they only base that on calories, when there is a lot of other factors to losing weight as we all now. I'm not an expert in this by any means but it works for me. I think the reason it works for me, it makes me pay attention to what I'm eating more. It helps me pay attention to portion sizes much better. I like that I can document the calories burned at the gym (and I personally don't allow myself over my "daily calorie goal" even after it says I can eat more since I burned more) and personally I almost feel bad not putting what I ate in there so it almost keeps me more accountable. Did I mention I'm partially OCD though?

Did I mention I'm partially OCD though? It has/will definitely help me eat better, I know that for a fact. That part I'm confident that MFP will help me. I just changed my activity level from "Active" to "Lightly Active" and that dropped my allowed calories to 2280. I work in a warehouse and am on my feet 90% of the day, moving lifting boxes and things of that nature. I figure lowering my activity level (and calories) will help me lose the weight a little faster. I'm glad you mentioned putting your gym stuff in there, I had a question about that also. I did the elliptical last night for 35 minutes. MFP told that was 612 calories, but the elliptical told me it was only about 240 calories. I'm thinking the reading on the elliptical is probably more accurate. What do you think?

Definitely use what the elliptical tells you and plug that in, at least that is what I do. The elliptical is going to give you a more accurate read because it looks at your weight, resistance, and strides per minute. While that app probably just assumes you have the same resistance and same strides per minute the whole 35 minutes, which we all know isn't true. For me, I still put the time in to just track my workouts, but I always modify the calories burned based on what the machine I used said. It's probably still not 100% accurate, but much closer than the what that app thinks it was.

January 16, 201412 yr How do you manually enter the calories for your workout? Should just allow you to edit the calories burned to whatever it really was.
January 16, 201412 yr Should just allow you to edit the calories burned to whatever it really was. Ahh, I see that now. It automatically put the number of calories in when I entered the minutes I was on the elliptical. I didn't realize you could edit that number. Thanks!
