The Notre Dame of college basketball? When's the last time Notre Dame won a championship? That one seems like a swing and a miss...

All his talk about using the bench as motivation has been just that: talk.

The only bench player Cal knows what he is going to get when he plays is Dominique Hawkins. Johnson and Lee look like Freshman that will grab a board if it comes their way and clueless on defense. Poythress we got about 4 games from and now has lost his confidence. Lee did manage to air ball a FT so that was awesome.

Fell asleep at halftime, so didn't see any of the 2nd half, but man this team seems incredibly "average" right now. They are much more similar to last season's disaster than the 2012 champions. At this rate, only Young, Randle, and WCS are 1st rounders.

Wow I agree with you for once lol. Harrison's are gonna take time and both need one more year of college. This sure isn't 2012. I think Cal misses a quick guard.

Counting exhibitions they are 11 games into the season. Poythresss, I don't think, has been sold on the role Cal has for him. Don't know who the leader will be. Can't see it being him or WCS. Someone needs to step up in that role.

I guess Isaiah Austin was right.

The junior college transfer, Chery, got into the lane and scored big baskets all night. UK has got to step up their primeter defense. Andrew just is a step slow with smaller guards. I hate to think what Russ Smith will do to our D after seeing how this JC kid to got into the lane as easily as he did.

Free throw shooting is killing the Cats. Make a respectable % and they win this game regardless of everything else.

Also allowed Baylor too many offensive rebounds. Other than Randle everyone else stood and watched.

UK got a 9 point lead and then seemed to relax, as if Baylor was going to fold and they could cruise to the victory. Instead of turning up the heat and putting the Bears away the Cats went into the deep freeze and stopped hustling.

Fran was right in his commentary when he said in the second half that Baylor's coach was willing to gamble that UK couldn't continue to hit the 3's like they hit them in the first half, so he stayed with the zone.

But he couldn't keep the Cats from getting to the free throw line. They just helped his cause by not being able to convert those either.

Every team Kentucky plays this year will use a similar philosophy. And they're going to continue to get into the lane with quicker guards until something is figured out with how to stop it. Right now the twins are struggling with containing it.

I don't think Poythress is comfortable facing the basket. He seems hesitant in everything he does. He's not a 3 imo, not proficient enough handling the basketball and passing. And he's not consistent enough with his shot.

He also gets lost on defense quite a bit, so he's a liability there too.

I have a feeling as the year progresses his minutes are going to decline.

Watch Andrew Harrison get picked. He doesn't fight through the pick. Doesn't try to force his man over the pick. He just says "I'm picked" and gives up. Leads to terrible mismatches. Show some toughness. Knock the picker on his butt. even if you get a foul just to send a message. If you have the game taped, go to the last few minutes when #5 gets picked in front of the BU bench. Just stops even before making contact.

UK was down about 3 or so. Came out of a timeout. Aaron Harrison gets the ball on the baseline and drives and throws up a wild left-handed shot. No way in heck that was the intended play.

Rule #8

We (UK fans) are spoiled. We were dreaming of 40-0. Then thought a loss to Michigan St would send a message....really? It's a young team that has a lot to learn. While it's loaded with 5stars, it isn't the same make up as the championship team. They are likely to lose 3-4 conference games.

I see them getting better by tourney time. They have too much talent not to.

Agree. This team will be fine, just going to take them awhile, like many of the other top teams too.

With Cal not using the bench combined with the lack of effort by Poythress and the inconsistency of WCS, the Cats can't afford for Andrew Harrison to be this bad on both ends of the floor. They got a long way to go as a team. Poor effort and fight last night.

I thought the few minutes Poythress got were filled with effort. He was aggressive going to the rim with the one shot he had. It just got blocked. Cal said after the game he needs to use his bench more.
