I fail to grasp talent? That's hilarious. Cincinnati alone produces a level of talent equal to KC and St Louis combined. Quit making excuses for the failures of UK. As I said, UC and UL do a better job getting talent out of Cincinnati, Georgia, Florida and so on without the SEC brand to sell. How many NFL guys are coming out of Mizzou? It isn't the number UC and UL are putting at the highest level.

 

Bottom line. Two middle of the pack Big 12 teams came into the SEC and made noise very early. You'd expect Texas and Oklahoma to be on that level. Most SEC hacks laughed at the thought those two could compete when they were added. Now, they are proof recruiting to the SEC "works" It's a total farce...

Please, win a BCS game and get like Ohio State, the little engine that could first. They took one from Florida. Came back and showed a little more against LSU. Barely beat Arkansas, the third best SEC team in a BCS bowl that year, and now are looking at rolling through a weak schedule and getting a beat down from Florida State (not that it matters, as it could just as well be Alabama or Auburn given their performance against powerhouses like Northwestern and Michigan).

 

That's big brother. As a UC fan, you are second in your own state to that team. You know, the team whose sole validation will only truly come when they beat the best from the SEC. But please, by all means, sit and bash the SEC. You'd have more to point to if you could have been competitive with Florida. At least UK has their win over LSU, which tops anything UC has in recent memory.

 

U of L actually has a BCS win over an SEC team (last year against Florida), but their fans aren't thumping their chest about how dominant they are. They seem to know and understand after being to two BCS bowls in a relatively short time frame.

It's a state where they take football seriously and combine with California and Florida to produce more top echelon football players than the rest of the states combined. It's that state where they have $60 million high school stadiums and network TV shows air in primetime and Hollywood movies are made about high school kids who play football for their hometown school. To borrow from Ron Burgundy, it's kind of a "big deal" there.

 

See, Texas A&M is competitive and has surpassed Texas (whose looking for a new coach and would give their left net to get Nick Saban out of the SEC) & have beaten the stuffing out of Oklahoma in a bowl game last year. Nonetheless, those are the two Big XII teams you continue to use them as some kind of exemplar for all that is right and good with tradition in college football. This is coming from a guy whose followed OU because it's his girlfriend's school and would like to see them beat Texas, but it's just the truth.

 

 

I didn't "laugh" at a Texas school the size of A&M having sole reign as an SEC program in such a talent rich state when it was announced. The monster that bred 7 straight national titles just needed fed when conference expansion came around, and it feasted by getting them. Get back to me in two years when Cincinnati (or any other Big East team) is out-performing them. Oh wait, they aren't even doing so now.

 

Call me an SEC hack if you want, but the proof is in the pudding. If there's a better conference over the past decade or in the BCS era, I haven't seen them. I'll stand by my statement that the Pac 12 is the only conference deserving to be in the discussion. I'll stand by my statement that, overall, in those same eras, the Big XII is the only conference that belongs in the discussion. But this year, the SEC is only down when compared to the SEC of old. As a UC fan, you should know about the kind of massive beat downs the old guard was putting on teams from other conferences who were happy just to get a shot at them in a bowl game before, more times than not, going home embarrased.

The SEC is top heavy..it's first 4 or 5, forget it. The rest? Just like any other conference.

 

I think it's fair to say that over the last few years…Bama, Auburn, LSU and Florida are above the rest (maybe slide South Carolina in there. No, they haven't won anything big, but they continually seem to dismantle Clemson every year who seems to be one of the best, if not the best, that the ACC has to offer outside of FSU this year, obviously).

 

Kind of hard to put Florida in that category now, I know…but, I'm just going off the past 6-7 years.

One thing I think yet to have been mentioned is the bowl success of the SEC. The SEC had the highest winning percentage out of all the BCS conferences in bowls, except the Big East which I assume is due to the success in the early 2000's.

Nice response, and I mean that sincerely. But the thread was bash the SEC. Like you are with Cincy, I am very realistic about what UK has achieved and what they can achieve.

I'm of the opinion that Missouri is a one hit wonder this year and they'll have some nice years occasionally, but on the whole, will drop down to a middle of the pack team when Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee inevitably improve.

Compared to the last few seasons the SEC sucks this year. Which is what I have said. I have also said it is the best conference also. Which it is. It still sucked this year. Georgia lost to Clemson who is horrible. Florida won 2 more games than UK this year. Say that out loud without laughing. 2 Time Defending National Champ Alabama got outplayed and out coached by an Auburn team that was even worse than Florida this year. LSU sucked this year. Missouri won the SEC East over South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. Missouri? Missouri?

 

Yeah, the SEC sucks this year. And yet they still are better than all the other conferences. Fact.

 

 

Agree with most everything, except the part about Auburn being worse than Florida. No way you escape the SEC West with one loss if you are a team who can't take care of business with Georgia Southern at home. No way.

 

LSU was down by LSU standards, but weren't atrocious or anything. They play their game and don't beat themselves. I don't think it's out of the question that they win the Big 10 or Big XII this year.
