December 5, 201312 yr Yet again, nobody has said the SEC isn't the best conference... So why do we have a trash the SEC thread and 4 friggin pages of it and 75 comments. It has got to seem the SEC has about 3 or 4 good teams, when in reality they have way more than that.
December 5, 201312 yr ^ The reality is that we have very little way of knowing just how good anyone is due to the limited sample size of games each year and a schedule that is increasingly insulated from quality non-conference matchups. Not to mention that the SEC has set up its postseason bowl schedule with what feels like a dozen matchups with Big Ten opponents. Alabama's best non-conference game was a game against Virginia Tech, a game they won 35-10. That team went on to have a middling 5-3 ACC record against what can be best described as a generously navigable schedule. Auburn eked out a seven point win at home against Washington State earlier this season in their best non-conference matchup and the Cougars are sitting at next-to-last in the PAC 12 North with a 4-5 league record. We can use previous bowl results to the best of our ability, but there's just not really enough information to know for sure.

Because SEC people get so defensive when someone even thinks about questioning the strength of the league...

Any team or conference that has a history of success should be prepared to field questions and comments when things don't go as well.
December 5, 201312 yr Agree with most everything, except the part about Auburn being worse than Florida. No way you escape the SEC West with one loss if you are a team who can't take care of business with Georgia Southern at home. No way. I was talking about how Auburn's team last year was worse than Florida's team this year.

We have the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th ranked teams in the BCS. With 5 losses combined. Top 3 have 1 loss each. All 5 losses were to teams in the SEC.

All 5 losses were to teams in the SEC. True but the perception is that things are not going as well since the odds are growing long that the SEC will continue their NC run. That's been a big feather in the cap that will probably go away this year.
December 5, 201312 yr After reading through this thread, I can only imagine what this place is going to be like should Ohio State and Florida State both loss Saturday...:lol2:

December 8, 201312 yr Keep hating. But guess what? The SEC will have a team in the Championship game again.
December 8, 201312 yr Author I wish BCS one of the Bowls could swap out conference alliances and pit Bama and OSU in a game together....wait will OSU even make a BCS game?
December 8, 201312 yr Keep hating. But guess what? The SEC will have a team in the Championship game again. And it looks like they'll have to score 60 to win. What happened to all those super-great SEC defenses this year?
December 8, 201312 yr And it looks like they'll have to score 60 to win. What happened to all those super-great SEC defenses this year? It can happen you know. One of those years I guess. MSU got all the defensive players this year.
