So my Cards are 9TH rather than 10TH???

Mayfield is consistently ranked too low in these types of lists. As a Beechwood fan, I have seen both New Cath and Mayfield up close for the past few years and I can't think of one New Cath team that would have beaten a Mayfield team in that season.

 

2010

Mayfield would get drilled by DeSales, Wayne and Meade, I think they would also lose to Pulaski, Belfry and NCC. Anyone putting them in the top 10 is either a fan or just looking at their past reputation. Some years I think they could compete for a title in 3 or 4 classes, but not this season. Mayfield will win 1A and get another ring, but get crazy thinking they are better than that.

 

I've seen every single one of these teams on film and/or in person, and East Raider is right. Skill wise, I'd take Mayfield's kids over every one of them

 

DeSales is nothing flashy, far from it to be honest. They just execute out the wazoo.

 

Meade County and Wayne County are clones of each other, with a few guys that can run. Wayne actually has better speed of the two. As a matter of fact, Wayne has two WR's that once they get in the open field; forget it.

I'd say this is very accurate. I'd switch Desales and Wayne County, though.

As a John Hardin fan, I have seen Highlands, Meade, and Desales and we have played BG but I couldn't make that game. The two best teams on this list are Highlands and Bowling Green. I know things have changed and Meade is peaking right now, but Desales is a very good team and most people don't realize they crushed Meade County in their scrimmage earlier this year. Point being is Desales just does what Desales does each game and apparently know one has really been able to stop them. They had around 100 kids on their team and I am telling you they can compete with anyone in this state. I'm not saying they could beat BG or Highlands, but they have the talent to compete.

Not surprising. Some of the small schools can compete with the large schools. Depth is usually an issue.

Not trying to dog Mayfield at all, but it's a tough road for a class A program, no matter how good, to play four quarters against the numbers 5A, 6A, or even some of the larger 4As have.

 

Just ask McCracken Co (6A), Graves Co. (5A), Ft Campbell (3A), Tilghman (3A), Marshall Co (6A)...well, everybody beats Marshall Co., but still. Ask those guys if Mayfield can compete with the bigger schools...and not just this year, but year in and year out. And except for Marshall, not a slouch in any one of them, and even with that said, Marshall is a huge 6A school. Wow, I'm starting to sound like a Mayfield fan. Just pointing out that Mayfield is not your typical good 1A program, they are a level or two above that and have been able to maintain that high level of competition throughout the years. No doubt in my mind that Mayfield would be more than a handful for 5 or 6 teams on this list.

 

Someone brought up their loss to Caldwell and tried to use that as a reason for not rating them higher. Well lets not forget Caldwell was picked by many as the CLEAR favorite to win in 2A and could and would compete very favorably with many teams on this list. They got upset, yes, by a team they pretty much manhandled earlier, but then that's why they play the game, you never know what might happen.

'You could be right, I just think Collins is too good to be that low. I think if any team has a shot at beaating HHS it is Collins and I've thought that for awhile. I just find it tough to rank them #7 when in reality they have a shot at beating #3 in your list

Beechwood beat New Cath and lost to Mayfield 38-14. As good as New Cath was that year, Mayfield was better.

All this back and forth debating who can and would beat who, this year and that year, is mere poppycock.

Leaving out the fact that it's a rivalry game and was by far the worst game they played all year. Ok. With NCC's run through the playoffs that year you could not convince me Mayfield was better. Sorry but you can't just compare those two scores and assume Mayfield was better.
