This will be an interesting game. Sometimes you find a team a destiny and the Jackets could be that team.

 

Their running game is better than what some people on here are giving them credit for, yes it may be simple but you still have to stop even the most simple play, and if they execute better offensively even on the simple plays and Mayfield can't stop them, then it not so simple anymore.

 

On the other hand, simple plays usually have simple solutions.

 

Griffith is out, make no mistake about it. The rest of the team should be healthy and available.

 

Don't really know anything about Mayfield other than they are pretty athletic and fast.

I think what he was saying was he remembers Mayfield going for their first state titles in the mid-70s. Losing in 1976, but then coming back in winning in 1977 and 1978 showed that Mayfield would be then and in the future a constant threat to win state championships.

Mayfield was never a CONSISTANT player in the playoffs from 1959 until the early 70s... we lost more playoff games than we won... Jack Morris became head coach in 1969, and won a total of TWO playoff games prior to 1976. Since then, we have been lights out.... that is why I said early to mid seventies.

And like I said, you have no real understanding of Mayfield Football, they were in several semi finals, had atleast 2 #1 rankings

Mayfield was a power long before there 1st championship appearance in 1976. In 1974, I believe, it may have been 75, Mayfield had a 4-6 or 5-5 record and I remember someone saying that was the 1st Mayfield team that didn't have a winning record since the early 50s, can't remember the exact year. also, those late 60s to mid 70s teams were consistently 8-2, 9-1 type teams. You have to remember, in those days there were only 3 classes and Mayfield played in the WKY Conference vs teams like Tilghman, Owensboro, BGreen, Murray, etc. All these teams were very good teams most years and only the #1 team made the playoffs, so, they went a lot of years with great teams without even making a playoff appearance. There were only 8 teams per class that made the playoffs, so, if you won any playoff games back then, you could bet you beat a helluva team. So, even though they may not have had any state championships prior to 77, they were still a very respected and feared program.

I'm going to try this one more time...I was simply trying to give kudos to Williamsburg for making it to a STATE FINAL...something Mayfield had NEVER DONE until 1976...hence, the new kid on the block reference. THAT's IT. Good grief!

Passing team for sure. On a nice mild day it looks like this game would be an air show, high scoring. If it's cold, rainy, snowy, icy, it's probably gonna be a ground it pound it game. If that's the case, I'll still take mayfield, their line and mills will be hard to stop, throw in a little speed with bright, even harder,

I agree with you. Since you didn't say they were the best team God ever made on the face of the planet, some people get their feelings hurt. You said nothing bad about Mayfield. Some people will complain about anything

Good luck to both teams tomorrow. Regardless if it's the first trip or not, I hope both teams represent their school and themselves well.
