November 26, 201312 yr Ahhhh tire buying...a favorite topic of mine. There is no "best place" to buy tires. I have bought many a set over the years, and several sets in the past 4-5 years for 4 or 5 different vehicles. One thing I have learned over the years...CALL CALL CALL all stores anywhere you are willing to drive to get them and compare prices. The cheapest place you found a set last time might be one of the most expensive places the next, and vice versa. Also, don't always go for the "Top brand" name, like Goodyear, Firestone, etc. All the manufactures have "2nd label" brands that are usually much cheaper and is basically the same tire or very comparable. The one thing I have found...contrary to VOR's post...is that Tire Discounters is consistently one of and usually the most expensive place I have priced tires and have never bought anything from them. I have had multiple luck with Ken Towery's in Lexington at different locations, but again they weren't always the best deal. I have never had much luck at Wal Mart and I always find better prices on comparable tires elsewhere. But again, CALL CALL CALL. I wouldn't even think about buying a set till I called about 15 places and priced what I was looking for. And don't just call the big guys, call the local mom and pop places too, you kind find deals there as well. I agree with call, call, call. That is the way I do it. I have purchased from Sam's in the past but they can be limited in what they have to offer. The best deal I ever got was from TireDiscounters when I told them a price I was offerred from a competitor. The guy on the phone said hold on, then came back and made a better offer. He said his manager has said he will never lose a deal to the place I had the offer from because he once worked there and doesn't like them. The last two times I have done the callathon, TireDiscounters had the best deal.
November 26, 201312 yr Author About 15 years ago the National Sales Mgr for Bob Summeral tire told me they purchased their Michlin tires from Sams as they couldn't get them as cheap anywhere else. don't know if that's still the case but ever since then I buy from Sams when I want to get Michlin. Bought my current set of truck tires from Sams and love them, dont drive that truck much but got a great deal. Sam's doesnt carry any tires in my size for this car unfortunately.

November 26, 201312 yr I get all of my stuff done at Alexandria Tire. I know them, they take care of me, If I have issues they resolve it. I'm a big fan of supporting local folks and trust that they will steer me in the right direction. Do I pay more? Maybe, maybe not in the long run.
November 26, 201312 yr Awhile back, my 17 year old son had trouble with one of his tires. I sent him to Tire discounters in Covington. They told him he needed 4 new tires. I sent him next door to Bob Sumerel tires. They replaced his bad tire, and told him his other 3 were fine. I felt like Tire Discounters tried to take advantage of a kid. Will never go there again. we have all my business to Sumerel since and have always been treated well.

November 26, 201312 yr I have priced the same tire at Sams and Walmart and Walmart was cheaper. The cheapest tires I bought was at Discount Tire in Dayton, Ohio. I think their is one in Louisville.

November 26, 201312 yr How do you get them mounted? I have them shipped to the garage I use and they mount them for me.
