November 22, 201312 yr Author I'm no where as advanced as most of you, but at a younger age I lettered in Tennis and play Req League Basketball 3 nights a week...that was over 20 years ago though. This year I was diagnosed with a heart muscle function of around 25% on top of that I am obese and have arthritis. I get up most mornings and feel like crap, can't walk to get the mail 25 yards up my drive way without being out of breath. Basically I used my condition as an excuse to not do anything since the diagnosis...THEN I WOKE UP TUESDAY,(both literally and figuratively) got out of bed drove over the the Community Fitness Center and thought I would tryout the Therapy Pool. To my great surprise I was able to walk over a mile in the pool the first day and was able to swim about 100 yards using only my arms. Ended up spending over an hour in the pool and I was able to keep moving and active the entire time. Went back yesterday and was able to basically double my time in the pool working out, walking and swimming. After nearly 24 years of marriage my wife told me this is the proudest she has ever been of me...how can I not keep this up after that. Setting up a routine that I can work around the pools open time so that I can go at least 3 times a week for now building up to going daily. It will be a slow process, but I am going to get my life back!!! To Quote "Red" Redding, "Get busy living or get bust dying" Awesome job, Jumper_Dad. We all start somewhere. It is about where your fitness journey takes you to is what's important.

November 22, 201312 yr Already had my 2nd thanksgiving style dinner and it's not even the week of. Gonna be a brutal week on the gut.
November 22, 201312 yr Author Already had my 2nd thanksgiving style dinner and it's not even the week of. Gonna be a brutal week on the gut. Well, don't let it be. You can prevent it. Do what I do and for your next Thanksgiving meal let everyone go before you in line and use a salad plate instead of a huge dinner plate. And still exercise, take a 30 minute walk or whatever. Those two little tips may save you 1000 calories a meal.

November 22, 201312 yr Thanks, the older I get the harder it is to lose weight. It is simple life choices that push us one way or the other. If one goes down the proper path, the cumulative effect of those choices will be awe inspiring.
November 24, 201312 yr Broke through a personal barrier this a.m. I got up and went for a 2 hour workout in the pool, while the rest of my family was still in bed. I honestly didn't think I'd ever do that, I figured knowing myself that I'd just use days when the family was home as an excuse not to go. But I woke up this morning and couldn't stand the thoughts of not going. Today I was bugging the kid working at the pool to find out what the holiday schedule was so I would know how to plan my week. I know this doesn't sound like a lot, but for me this is the most excited to exercise that I've been in over 25 years. I'm intentionally not weighing for 4 weeks, hoping to shock myself around Christmas!!!

November 24, 201312 yr Anyone reading this, it is not too late unless you are dead. Do something fun. Make challenges. None of us, I think, are going to be stopped by a modeling agency any time soon. However, we can get that something more out of our lives by just giving a damn about what we eat and what we choose to do or don't do.

November 24, 201312 yr So this will be my public service announcement for those of you that go to public gyms much like myself. I'm always very good about making sure I wipe down equipment AFTER I use it, never giving much thought to wiping it down before I use it. Well a couple of weeks ago I started to break out under my arms. I thought maybe it was my new deoderent. However it didn't go away and even spread to my chest and back. Finally I went to the doctor and was diagnosed as having impetigo. I was given a cream to put on and antibiotics but I just wanted to say keep in mind that when you're out there using public equipment that everyone may not have quite the same gym manners as yourself.
