Don't be a slug. Put down the divinity, giblet gravy, and your grandmother's unhealthy and gross looking cranberry sauce and get your butt in shape. There is no time like the present.

Coming off my Ironman I have backed off a bit but beginning to get back in the swing of things. Last Saturday I ran 8 miles in 58 minutes and some change... 7:19 pace, I was pumped. I had never broken an hour on land before. I am back swimming and ran 6 this morning with a training partner of mine. Felt great outside.

I will be honest. I have not done any working out, or hardly any since I left the military years and years ago. I've been a slug. I've smoked since I was 13 which was 35 years ago.

I finally quit smoking. Oct 1st this year was the first day smoke free. I for the first time in a long time I can take deep breaths and not be exhausted after lifting a heavy object.

I haven worked out per say but I have started at least walking etc. It's a start and already am feeling much better. Maybe one day I can catch up to you all.

Hells yeah. To put things in perspective, when I finished high school sports I said I would never work out again. Got big, looked like crap and felt like crap. When I finally committed to fitness a few years back I could not jog more than 3 minutes on the treadmill. I have since accomplished many things...

The point is there is never a bad time to commit your health to the positive. We often look for an excuse not to do something. Try looking at things in reverse. Make excuses as to why you can't sit around an do nothing for the day. It is because you are out walking, or lifting some weights.

C'mon Hellbird!! Jump on board with us! You have already started.

I only got serious in Jan '13. 11 months later and it's part of the weekly schedule.

HUGE Congrats on kicking the smoking habit! :thumb:

My biggest motivation? I'm almost as old as Clyde, and I have a 6-yr-old. I will be parenting for a very long time, and I want to be healthy for all of it.

November has been the month from hell. My wife, who is EXTREMELLY active, was blindsided by some terrible health news and surgery, which put my training even further on the back burner. After spraining my ankle, cardio was out for about 4 weeks. I still can't run, but can finally use the rowing machine. Losing 2 weeks of lifting, running, and the stress of my wife's uncertainty, running my household and keeping up w/ work let Cortisol wreak havoc on my stomach. Last week was my first week back to lifting. I'm FINALLY able to deadlift and squat. I've changed from focusing on strength to getting my BF back to where it was. I'm following a manageable 20 week program that will take us up to our Spring Break trip, if we are able to go.

My brother and I completed tapout XT2.

My pant size stayed the same 32

I gained 5.6 pounds.

I think this was a combination of eating more and hitting the gym.

We are taking one week off and then doing a combination of all of the cardio workouts we own, for ten weeks.

I will continue to hit the gym through this ten weeks.

The only goal I have is to drop a pant size.

After five weeks if I am not down a size

I will decrease my food intake for five weeks and take things from there.

Good luck all

Good Luck!

I made great progress with 2 rounds of Insanity.

Then I hit a frustrating plateau.

So I started to run. No weights or anything.

Making progress again.

Change is a good thing.

Wow. You have been dealt a challenging hand.

Hope your wife is ok.

Hang in there, Mex.

Just ran the "Southern Lights Stroll 5K at the Kentucky Horsepark last night. Our 3rd. time doing it and has now become a family tradition to do this race and see all the Christmas lights through out the park. I had a personal best for this year at a 24:30 and was tickled to death. Now that is not fast for most, but for a use to be 310lb. 47 year old fat man with server asthma thats a big improvement. Today I am 130 lbs. less and my asthma is no longer an issue. I am doing the Disney marathon on January 12th. and not sure what I have gotten myself into? I just finished my 8th. half this past weekend in 2:06 but another 13.1miles I'm just not sure about. I might be in bed for a week afterwards but I will finish it!

I've lost 15 pounds since October 28th. We are having a Biggest Loser contest at school that ends on Dec. 16th.

I am in 4 place right now. No snacks unless it is fruit. Cut back on portions. Been exercising some as well. I will walk 1 minute and then run 30 seconds. Be doing about 30 minutes a day doing that.

That's great! Congratulations!

Fantastic! Amazing job!

I'm no where as advanced as most of you, but at a younger age I lettered in Tennis and play Req League Basketball 3 nights a week...that was over 20 years ago though. This year I was diagnosed with a heart muscle function of around 25% on top of that I am obese and have arthritis. I get up most mornings and feel like crap, can't walk to get the mail 25 yards up my drive way without being out of breath. Basically I used my condition as an excuse to not do anything since the diagnosis...THEN I WOKE UP TUESDAY,(both literally and figuratively) got out of bed drove over the the Community Fitness Center and thought I would tryout the Therapy Pool. To my great surprise I was able to walk over a mile in the pool the first day and was able to swim about 100 yards using only my arms. Ended up spending over an hour in the pool and I was able to keep moving and active the entire time.

Went back yesterday and was able to basically double my time in the pool working out, walking and swimming. After nearly 24 years of marriage my wife told me this is the proudest she has ever been of me...how can I not keep this up after that. Setting up a routine that I can work around the pools open time so that I can go at least 3 times a week for now building up to going daily.

It will be a slow process, but I am going to get my life back!!! To Quote "Red" Redding, "Get busy living or get bust dying"
