November 18, 201312 yr Sources: #Reds, free agent Skip Schumaker agree on two-year deal, pending physical. Per Ken Rosenthal tweet.
November 18, 201312 yr I like it. Gets on base at a good clip, is solid with the glove at multiple positions.
November 18, 201312 yr Option A in case Hamilton isn't ready in CF? Or further proof that Phillips is not going to be back? Or a way to hedge your bets in both positions?
November 18, 201312 yr Option A in case Hamilton isn't ready in CF? Or further proof that Phillips is not going to be back? Or a way to hedge your bets in both positions? I think it's more indicative of the latter...Definitely is a nice insurance policy in either case though. And I'll get it out of the way before people start. He's not the caliber 2B defensively as Phillips.

November 18, 201312 yr No one available is. And I'm not convinced anyone on the planet is. Not having this debate again, but is it safe to assume you see BP play about 20 times as often as any other MLB 2B??
November 18, 201312 yr Not having this debate again, but is it safe to assume you see BP play about 20 times as often as any other MLB 2B?? It's more than games I've seen. I hold the opinions of guys that watch games for a living, who played at the highest level, and have been around the game their entire lives, extremely high. There's really nothing to discuss. Of course I see BP more than the other 2B but I'm not sure why that matters. Now throw a stat out there that says those guys are wrong...
November 18, 201312 yr Not a bad signing. Much better offensively than what the Reds have had as a utility man the last several seasons. Decently productive offensively, nothing special defensively but can play several positions and won't kill you at any of them. Hopefully he is being viewed as a utility player and not an every day player.
November 18, 201312 yr ^ No really, about the same as Jack Hannahan... .263 BA for Schumaker, .216 for Hannahan. .332 OBP for Schumaker, .317 for Hannahan. .332 Slg for Schumaker, .288 for Hannahan. .665 OPS for Schumaker, .605 for Hannahan. I'm not saying he's Mike Trout but you can hit him somewhere besides 8th and not have an automatic out in your lineup like Hannahan or Izturis.
November 19, 201312 yr Option A in case Hamilton isn't ready in CF? Or further proof that Phillips is not going to be back? Or a way to hedge your bets in both positions? If it is to take BP's spot then this team is in trouble if that is their answer. That is taking a step backwards imo. and the Reds are already hurting when it comes to good consistent hitters on this team. I don't like it if that is the answer to replacing BP.
November 19, 201312 yr ..... If ever there was a player that Cincinnatians would love, it is this guy. He'll be incredibly popular. :walk:
