November 15, 201312 yr Saw an old Report Card with grading scale on it... Anyone remember this grading scale? I do! A 100-95 B 94-88 C 87-81 D 80-75 F Below 75 Failure Today: A 100-90 B 89-80 C 79-70 D 69-60 F Below 59 Failure Why did the scale change? Benefit of the student? Benefit of the teacher? Benefit of the school/system?
November 15, 201312 yr What grades? Seemed as if mine always fluctuated a little bit. 92-94 being an A, etc. Once I got to college it was in increments of 10.
November 15, 201312 yr Author I have a friend who's daughter is at Harvard Law, he said they only do pass fail with no grades given. He said this came about because of the extreme competition that came between students to get to the top of the class.

When I was in elementary and middle school we were on the first scale and then some time in high school it went to the 10 point system.
November 15, 201312 yr I have a friend who's daughter is at Harvard Law, he said they only do pass fail with no grades given. He said this came about because of the extreme competition that came between students to get to the top of the class. One of my professors now has her law degree and where she went to school (I don't remember where she said) they would only give out a set number of grades per semester. e.g. 3 A's, 7 B's, 8 C's.... I would have quit as soon as I heard that.
November 15, 201312 yr I had the 10 point increments all the way up to high school (60-69=D, 70-79=C, etc). When I got to high school (in 1984), anything under 70 became failing, and 93 and up was an A, the same system my kids are on. For the life of me I can't remember my college grading scale (I don't remember quite a few things from college, though)
November 15, 201312 yr Pass/Fail in elementary school. 10 point increments from middle school through college.
November 15, 201312 yr As far as I know, I was on the 10 points scale all the way through. Elementary is the only time I'm uncertain about since all I saw were letter grades without seeing a percent.
November 15, 201312 yr I honestly don't remember. I know that at UD in college I would just get a letter grade and a GPA. You had to go to your professors and ask them personally if you wanted more detail than that... Hah... not bothering. I don't recall Trinity's grading scale for letter grades. I've blocked out most of law school grading and I'm not going to start hacking at that mess with a machete.
November 15, 201312 yr I can't remember what elementary school was, but to the best of my memory, middle school was: A: 93-100 B: 85-92 C: 78-84 D: 70-77 F: Below 70 When I got to high school, it was the 10 point scale, with the exception of D's, which were 65-69. Anything below a 65 was failing. As a teacher, I've taught with both scales. I like the 10 point scale better. But I think I'd prefer a pass/fail system over any.
November 15, 201312 yr A+: 100 A: 96-99 A-: 95 B+: 94 B: 86-93 B-: 85 C+: 84 C: 76-83 C-: 75 D+: 74 D: 70-73 Below 70: F
