3 Things to Stop Posting On Social Media

Featured Replies

Facebook has become such a pedestal for people to subconsciously (or not) seek approval and self worth. So many use it these days as a "look at me (and/or my family)".

Mothers (and, I'm married with one and one on the way) seem to constantly use it as a forum for 'One Upping' each other.

My grandkids live 1000 miles away. I live for pictures of halloween costumes' date=' soccer games, running awards and the new dog on facebook. It helps me feel involved.[/quote']

I am the same way. None of my family, and few of my closest friends live near me. What others think of mundane make me feel less disconnected.

Agree, people that advertise they are on vacation are complete idiots.

And on the insistence, that is one of the big reasons young people have abandoned Facebook. Too easy for their parents to keep tabs, now they spend their free time on a multitude of other sites/applications that parents struggle to track. For example, SnapChat where they sext each other among other things.

I was just introduced to SnapChat a couple of weeks ago. Love it :thumb:

I haven't really noticed it.

I've been on Facebook since the huge ice storm of 2007. I have committed all of these crimes at various points. I rarely do more than Facebook stalk these days but I had some fun on there at one time.

It is pretty much an outlet for communication at this point now. Much easier for me to stay in touch with my BG friends this way.

I am always surprised by people who announce that they are on vacation. Seems like a good way to get robbed.

When my kids were in college, I insisted on being their Facebook friend. I sometimes regretted that!:wideyed:

Then you need to check your settings. If anyone other than your friends can see your Facebook page that is your fault. If we get robbed while on vacation because of Facebook then we'd know who it was.

You all sound like my overprotective, just got a smartphone mom and mother-in-law.

I started a run club here in town. Facebook is EASILY the best way to run it and get the word out. So I'd say I need one.

Same with us. We use it for our broadcasts and news. Otherwise, I would not have one. Twitter works a lot better for us.

What kids fail to realize on snap chat is that the image can be saved!

But you get alerted to the screenshot so you know it's saved.

This is the part of facebook that makes me cringe......

"Oh my goodness. I have such a busy day today. First I have to drop off the kids at school. Then I have to drop the dog off at the groomer. But before that I have to pick up the dry cleaning. Then I have to go to Starbuck$. Then I have to find a craft on Pintrest for my son's class party. Then I have to wait for Lawnboy to deliver the package. :lol2: I'll be way too busy to post on Facebook today."

Agree on this. The other variant is the play by play of the entire day's activities in separate posts. I had one person who posted 7 or 8 times a day, detailing each thing she did. I don't mind you telling me something interesting that may have happened to you...but, just picking up the dry cleaning, or getting the car washed, isn't one of them.

But you get alerted to the screenshot so you know it's saved.

If you save it to your camera as an image?

Regardless it does not go away and it is in the hands of someone else.

If you were to send me a snapchat the only way for me to get it to save is to screenshot it. However, once I screenshot it you get an alert that reads something like "nkuclubbaseball19 took a screenshot!!".

I understand what you are saying though. It's great that you know I screenshotted it but I still have the image.

Then again, maybe I'm just "unlucky" but the snapchats I receive are nowhere near what people think snapchat is used for. I get a lot of dumb faces and pictures of random stuff.

I totally understand the appeal of Facebook...at least as far as being able to post pics, stay in touch or re-find old friends, helping get the word out about class reunions, etc. With that said, I have an accounbt but can't tell you the last time I posted anything, and heck probably been weeks since I've even checked it. As for Twitter, however...man I just don't get the appeal of that at all, and actually find it somewhat confusing.

"I stopped and got gas."

Exactly.
