I know we have gone back and forth on this. Once again, my opinion is very simple. Treat football the same as the other sports. When they stop letting everyone into the baseball, basketball, track, etc. sports, then I am ok with them not letting as many teams into football. I have seen post season baseball games with 20-0 scores, basketball games with 100-20 scores etc.

I am with you on the classes TOG. I think 6 classes is too many. But even when we had 4 classes, there were many blowout, non competitive games in round one of the playoffs. Four classes doesn't change that for those who complain about blowouts in round one.

 

The biggest downside to 6 classes and the structure is the travel distance for some teams in round one. However, I really like the matching up of districts against each other in the first two rounds instead of the first two rounds of the post season being games against teams in your own district. If travel is the real problem, then you go back to the first two playoff games being a true district tournament type setup and play teams in your own district.

How do you feel about all the teams getting into the playoffs in all the other sports?

They are different sports which have differing rules. You can get from 16 teams down to 2 in just a few days in basketball. That takes a month in football.

And how are the teams eliminated? ...and don't say "by their regular season record". Because teams with identical records could be eliminated. It's by their district process. If teams have the same record, then how do they determine who advances? There is some kind of tiebreaker criteria right? So to determine who moves on is your record against your district opponents first and then to a tiebreaker decision to determine who advances. That sure seems like district elimination process to determine who moves on to the Championship round. And again, this is where we differ. I say just because they use regular season games to determine the district outcome doesn't mean it's not a district process to advance teams. Like others have said, the nature of football doesn't lend itself to doing it exactly like other sports, but the intent of the process is exactly the same. Football just allows too many to advance.

 

You keep saying go back and look and you will see there have always been blowouts. You're right! But Nowhere near the rate they are now. It was either a team caught fire or a very strong district played a very weak district. You'll never be able to stop that, but you can control how many of those blowouts you have and how severe those blowouts are. Back then, you may have had one team on occasion reach the 60-70 mark. Maybe one every other season or so. Now we have multiple teams reaching 60 points plus a game in the first rounds all the time.

Almost is the key word. And I mentioned them. But, they were by far the closest to pulling off an upset. The other two 4s over 1s...one of them just about everyone in the state knew would happen and the other was a coin flip prior to kickoff. So if you remove those two "upsets", then Cooper would have been the only team in the state (out of 90 teams) that even came close. And they lost by 10.

My point is that it isnlt always a blow out like you want everyone to believe and put on top of that, thaat there are blowouts in every single round tells me it doesn't matter what seed you are, blowouts are not reserved for the bottom seeds so why keep complaining about it. It gets old.

I agree 110%

And just because some lower seeds win or come close to winning it doesn't mean that justifies letting in said team. It just shows there were some quality clubs that didn't make the playoffs. Happens at all levels and a multitude of other states.

Look at the 1 seeds in the regular season and you will see MANY games where the score was worse than last night
