I think it was 220 when I just checked and 190 are in the playoffs.

 

So how can we get all the teams into the playoffs. With 6 classes, 32 teams per class that is right at the 190. We are 30 short. So these are options. One, go to seven classes. That would get everyone in, 10 week season, 5 week playoffs. Two, go back to four classes and add one more week to the playoffs. That would put 64 teams per bracket, a total of 256 teams which is 36 more than teams playing. Figure out a way to give a bye to district winners or some other criteria and that solves the problem. You may have to go back to a 9 game regular season.

 

There are other ideas I am sure could work but those are a couple off the top of my head.

I'm not offering any alternatives nor do I have an opinion on the playoff system.

At least 5 teams did not make the playoffs with 3 wins.

If you to the first page of this thread, it will give you a lot of the stats. I posted them. 4 teams made the playoffs with 0 wins. Check it out. It's pretty amazing. The only thing I didn't do that I wish I had was calculate how many teams actually had wins but did not win a district game. I know it happend, but I didn't count them.

Unequal treatment of teams that are in similarly situated circumstances.

If they used more than just the 3 or 4 games in the district to determine the champ I would agree it is watered down. The tie breaker in KY to determine seeding is a joke. What team is better a 5A team playing all 6A non conference games and only winning 50% or a 5A team playing 2A and 3A teams. Not that Ohio has everything perfect but I do like the fact the larger the school you play the more points you get for the win. Also all games count for seeding not just your district games. IE last year a 9-1 Cooper team gets ranked 3rd when 8-2 and 7-3 Conner and South Oldham get ranked higher. If you only took the top two seeds in the district last year they would have never made it to the playoffs or the State Finals and they had the best record.
